Just need a Photobucket account and load the pictures to it once that is done you can then copy the (IMG) code and then paste it here in the reply box .

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

No problem, if you copy the last code with the (IMG) tag it will put the picture right up on the forum instead of just the link to them.

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

It was sitting under a lean2 next to a old shop. The petina is so cool looking I thought about leaving the paint the way it is. I will get the motor running like a champ and put 20s with a drop or bags. Not sure yet. I'm excited because those trucks are really hard to find around here.

Looks like a sweet truck, what's the plans for it? Hope you plan on keeping the patina.

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

Leaving the patina look is probably the look I'm gonna do. When peeping for a clear coat do you have to sand the rough spots where the surface rust is pretty bad? I will do that, bag it, and either 20s or 22s. There is a guy who has one on here that I like a lot. It says Bapst Rod Shop on the door

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

Just watched a show where they found a 50 Olds with heavy patina like your truck. They lightly sanded it and layed a satin clear over it. LOOKED AWESOME!! Just made the colors POP, like a rock when you wet it!

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

So just a light sand over the entire body and a satin clear would be all I would need? How many coats of clear?

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

That's a good find. I think the surface rust is a bit too far along. Maybe after a good scrub with CLR it would be better.

Won't the rust bleed through the clear coat? I've seen enough failed clear coat over good fresh paint to foresee a hellish mess. Surface rust always bleeds through paint,so why not clear coat?

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

There is this great stuff called Evaporust that would work wonders and strip all that rust off of there and leave the patina without the threat of rerusting thats what I would get if I were going to do it, but I dunno man thats more "patina" than is cool, for me anyway. Just strip it down to bare metal with a 4 1/2" side angle grinder and some Polycarbonite discs and get some John Deer satin black then clear it, and im certain you will be happier with the results.

Yes sir I'm almost certain that the rust with bleed through if not completely leave the clear rough all the time. Im leaning towards a total strip down and shoot the prime that covers really well(not sure what it's called - epoxy primer?) then have it painted

Re: '69 SWB barn find!

I will throw in 2 cents if that's ok.. Put it together and drive it. No clear coat, no 20s, no air bags, no shop logo. Just leave it be. That's a really cool truck you have there!!!
