Hood hinge question....
Can anyone enlighten me to the difference between the 55-57 hood hinges and the 58-59 ones? My project came without any hinges, and I am working on a budget here, so a $500 set of billet ones is out of the question. I have a junkyard across from my house that has a 59 sitting there with both hinges on it, but I have nothing to compare them to. All the sheetmetal looks the same, but the catalogs call for something different between the two year sets. Why can't I use the 59's on my 55? Anyone know?

Re: Hood hinge question....
I can't answer your question but I found the drawings in the LMC catalog are a pretty good way to compare parts. Also check the part numbers if they are the same.....
I do know that a lot of times old/used hinges are more trouble they they're worth. |

Re: Hood hinge question....
The bolt holes for the firewall mount are different spacing. Hood part is the same. I think the 58/59 holes are closer together.

Re: Hood hinge question....
The 55-57 hinges have the springs self contained. The 58-59 one end of the spring hooks into the inner fender. I dont like the 58-59 system because it pulls the back of the hood up if there is any play in the hinges.

Re: Hood hinge question....
i thought the 58-59 were the same and the 55-57 were different
and like wrenchbender said the spring on 58-9 attaches to the inner fender

Re: Hood hinge question....
As mentioned, the firewall bolt spacing is different. Find yourself a set of 55-57 hinges as this is what your truck was designed for - you can buy non-billet hinges, just standard replacement hinges for something like $120 a pair...
