Cool 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

1973 1974 1975 TACH DASH

Would like info on these.
My 1973 & 1975 trucks do not have them installed from the factory.
However, I have 2 Tach Dash panels.

What are the differences?

On the bulkhead wiring connector that plugs into the rear of the dash panels :
Is the wiring loom the same across all of the models, with the printed circuit being the difference?

Discussion please!

Cool Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

The tach dash panels that I will be using are AMP gauge panels.

I am seeking answers for my future installation as well as providing a thread here for relative information.

Some have machanical oil pressure and some have electronic. The ones I have swapped all had different pin locations on the plug/circut board.

You guys ever see one of these before?

Yes, there is someone on the site who has done Camaro Gauge swaps.
Insidious I think...
Yours has the earlier gauges and his has the later ones...

My 76 originally had gauges w/mech oil gauge, I swapped to tach dash with fuel gauge now in lower left where brake light used to be. On my swap it was plug-n-play no mods or wiring changes needed, however some are not a direct swap....just depends what you start with and what your swapping with.

this may help

I've done the early and late swaps for these clusters. I like the IROC speedo since its got bigger font and goes to 145 and lines up and fits better. And the lighting doesn't bleed through badly.

Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

My font matches better, speedo goes to 150 and lines up and fits perfectly. The lighting does not bleed through at all and most importantly, ALL the needles are a perfect match.
It's a little dusty cuz I did this about 8 years ago.

Question Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

Both are nice looking swaps.

So on the 73 -75 dashes, factory stuff, what else is known regarding installing these, fixes, etc etc?

Use a test light and start checking wires. You may have to swap some of them around. Don't just plug it in or you could burn something up. put the circut boards next to each other and trace the circuts.
Have fun and keep smiling.

Were you using a 70s truck pod or 80s. There may be differences bit I haven't been able to confirm

Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

I think this cluster started life as a 1981 or 82 C10 Chevrolet factory tach cluster, IIRC. I added 1971 Camaro Z28 150mph speedo (standard camaro is 130mph) and base 71 camaro 7000rpm tach (I think the Z28 had a 8000rpm tach)
I replaced the guage pointers on the truck guages with those off the camaro guages. (except for the fuel guage I never got that one changed)They are very easy to swap and makes it look factory. Camaro tach/speedo are very close to the same size as the ones I replaced and were an easy swap/.

Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

'76 is the first year for the voltage gauge. According to the '74 electrical diagram, the main plug at the cluster is the same for tach and non tach applications. Of course, you will have to run the 3 wires to the tach, but they are imprinted on the tach itself. Makes it easy. To my understanding, 73-75 should be the same, having an amp gauge and mechanical oil pressure. Not sure about the font on the speedo; I would swap in the original speedo from the truck you are swapping to anyhow. The rest of the gauges are pretty much the same.

not sure about the "early" years but my 78
when i went from idiots to gauge n tach there were a few wires to move
the gas sender and power + and - of course

cluster plug is 79

Re: 1973 1974 1975 tach dash

Just tryin to establish what each year represents.

Has anyone to offer differences between these years : 73 74 75 ?

The wiring loom bulkhead is a good start.
