Rusted floor on my 67

Just starting on my 67 GMC. Pulled out the floor insulation and found rust on both the driver and passenger floor. It's rusted all the way through in places. How is this normally repaired? Do I get a welder to weld in a patch of some sort? Is there a pan type kit that goes over or under the existing floorboard?

Any ideas on options is appreciated. I don't plan on a frame off restoration.

welding is the best way, ive seen others use rivets or screws, if you go that rought use a good sealer, depends on how big the holes are, they make a whole floor, you can get half floors or if its not to big get some good sheet metal and cut the rust out and weld a patch piece in

You can cut out just wat is bad or replace sections , or the whole cab floor , depends on funds or time you have ... here is an idea of some of the cost for
parts ...

lmc is a good way to go, you can buy a decent sized piece of sheet metal from them. as far as the floor is concerned it is pretty common to find rust on the floor next to the kick panels. go to www.mobilehotrodrepair.com this guys has some really good videos that show rocker panels and floor being repaired.

i guess most of these trucks has or had some rust in different places...welcome to the board from Texas, just try and fix it as good as you can, so it will last a long time.....its a lot better to get all the rust out and replace it with new metal, that way these great trucks will last forever.....

LMC's complete floor plan (rkintn 68's pic) is a great buy. I used one on my 68 GMC. Cut the old one out, pop the new one in, and tack away!

Im by no means an expert on this, but--------having just paid almost $3K to repair a floor that initially looked much better than yours, my advice would be to do a lot of investigation BEFORE you spend money on repairs.
With the condition of your rockers and the floor at the toe board, I would also say that your lower door post extensions are also rusted away (that you cant tell until you remove the outer rockers.
My favorite saying is that rust is like an iceburg---90% of it is unseen.

You are looking at some extensive floor repairs----it might be more cost effective to find another cab in better shape. The truth is "these trucks rust", so finding one thats never had rust is highly unlikely, but there are better and worse candidates for restoration. Had I known how extensive the rust was in my cab--Id have driven across country if necessary to find a better one, but as we worked on mine--the more we fixed, the more we found. We quickly got to the point of no return--had too much in it to stop. Its rust free (?) now, but the cost was much higher than I initially imagined.

buy your tins from wes off here.. great guy and great prices... then go to work on it.. i did all the metal work with a few other board members that are from my town.. and after they taught me a bit and what not it all fell into place.. fairly simple

I can't say that I have ever replaced a floor on these yet....I say that because I will be on my 72. What I can tell you from experience and looking these trucks over very extensively...Replace the entire floor. You get all the braces, inner rockers, and its all new metal. I've done a ton of patches on things, cars, pickups, even vans. After looking at the floor, the extra money it takes to get a floor will actually end up costing you alot less in the long run. I can also tell you that if you are somewhat handy and have some metal working tools (especially a welder) you can install this floor yourself! There are other things out there I would recommend the DIY'r pay someone for. This is something that is very simple and can be done by almost anyone. Take your time, ask plenty of questions and you would have no problem with it. Were all here to help. If there is one thing I know something about its body work!

Check out my build on the 67-72 builds, I just replaced my drivers side outer floor, inner kick panel, door pillar and outer rocker. I will give you a idea of what is done.

Im pretty new at welding too, I just started welding this year and haven't made it through two spools of wire yet.

i redid the floor sections. inner & outer rockers, cabcorners, & cab supports on my 72 c20 before they offered whole floors. my cousin just did his 72 k10 but he did the 1 piece. definetly spend the money for whole floor... unless your like me & enjoy welding. either way it's a lot of work, just less room for error with whole floor. a few things of welding advice. the cleaner your metal the easier it welds. use .023 gauge wire not heavier ( decreases chance of any warpage) TAKE YOUR TIME. you'll be glad you did
