Cutting door top/channel

You guys ever see anyone cut the top of the door to match the bed with the top off, and still be able to use the top? I would think the window would be the same fit all the way to the top yea?
Obviously there would be some door mods to be done.

Yea...it doesnt look like such a big deal to modify the channel so it can be cut and still have a top.

What would you do about the wind wing window? Ditch it and go with one larger window?

i think the window slide would show,its fairly close to the top..just something to consider

If you did that the window would come right up/out of the door. BUT!!...you could prolly have taller glass cut (it's flat). Hhmmm.....I reckon the door top would need a 1"+ "ledge" to keep geometry to the roof w/strip.

I want to do a roadster again but want to have a chopped and removable hard top.

As I think about this again....will taller glass fit in the door and be concealed when rolled down? Remove the bottom stop and use power I guess.

I thought of that but again, as you stated, if you can modify the arm, it might work. I have an extra door....I will try it on that door and mock up something that might work like electric. I Will keep you informed.

Do you have any info(thread link?) on the blazer in the pics? Those are the wheels I want!

I think the door mod would be pretty cool with the wing gone.It would really clean up the lines the step has always looked out of place. Or you could just raise the bedsides and tailgate to match....and chop the top!

Another cool alternative would be to fab a piece that goes on the bed rail (attaches same as the top) that makes it the same height as the door.

I've seen a few of them cut and most are turned into roadsters without side windows. The one piece windows don't work in the blazers from what I've heard/read because there isn't any support when the window is half way down. Also, you'd have a funny door frame sticking up when you remove the vent window. Cutting them can look odd where the door meets the window frame too. You need to either cut at an angle to match or fab something for the corner. I'd think that putting a modern review mirror in the corner that has a window channel in it would solve the visual and the issue with the window not having support.

I've also seen a few extended bed rails. Most that I've seen are padded or wood. If you add bed rail extensions, you'll have a sudden drop at the tail gate, so you may need to add a tail gate extension too.

Either of these options add challenges to getting a hard top back on. Bed/Tailgate extensions can be removed. If they are removable, they won't have the seamless factory look.

If you chop the top, all the glass issues go away, b/c you will have more glass then you need....unless im looking at it wrong

The top of the glass will have to be cut, or you just wont wind the window up all the way. Which is exactly what you want

I think you may be right. The channel can be molded into the wind shield frame and it will seal around that and stock seal of the top. The glass can just be cut down to fit afterwards. IMO. So then the top can be on/off and the door will still look roadster. All the little pieces of the top/door connection are all modifiable IMOP to make the glass fit.
I guess I cant suicide the doors if I do this...oh well.
