Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
next up is remove p/s a arms. then clean and paint.
(NOTE HERE: front passenger side a arm u bolt is flopping around before i put a wrench on it. going to see whats up with that now that break is over.) i was too wiped out last night to paint the clean d/s pieces (lazy sod) so that was first up today. should be dry by the time i have the others ready for paint. i feel like i am behind a day from where i want to be but i did find a sec to base coat my halloween mask. also sent the little lady to napa for the right lug nuts. we hope. i use their reserve and pick up option. works three for three so far. another note here. it looks like a fresh steering set up soon, so i made the decision to pull the front fenders this spring and do the front of the frame and refresh the engine compartment. so dont judge if i leave some of the gunk.

Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
so if i could say anything to those who come after me, my mistake so far, aside from lug nuts not fitting new spindles is trying to press out and in the lower ball joints.
i got 3/4 of the way ( 2 out and one in) and it took much energy and used over 8 hours of my time. with a kick ass press, but not the cups. today i took the other a arm to the metal supply and they pressed the other on in in 5 min and for free with their kick a$$ electro hydro press. i gave them some beer money. also didnt beat up the joint like i did. i highly reccomend this for those on a

I work at a tire shop that has 2 presses for tires. They are rated at 75 ton capacity. That is 150,000 pounds of steady pressure. If you aren't careful you can break stuff quickly.

Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
worked under the tarmp til midnight.
truck is off the jack stands and on all four of its own. two hang ups: the later model tie rod ends i bought dont fit the 69 tie rod adjuster, had one from the donor and the other will be waiting for me at napa. the other is a little bigger issue. the booster pushrod is a bit too long. about a half an inch. i think i am just going to cut it instead of space the m/c. if i can get it to work for three or four months i will have the hydro boost ready to install with the new steering box all in one project...... too tired for pics tonight ill have some tomorrow for those interested.

Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
ran into a few more small issues with brake lines.
will resolve them at napa tonight. here are some pics of the m/c and booster from the 77 donor and the 69 truck. the rod was cut on the 69 to fit the new disc/drum m/c. fits nice now. then while gently trying to reposition the front brake line i broke an inch off it. not huge hold ups, just a drag because i am working after hours and cant get to parts house until next day and then cant get to work on the truck until...blah blah......

Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
ok.
truck is buttoned up. 1130 pm and three days over budget. calipers grab and release. (odd note here, left and right reman calipers from napa had two different size bleeder screws. it bothers me but will have to wait.) but only a little pedal. after work friday i will have a happy helper pushing the pedal while i bleed them the old fashion way and also inspect the connections in daylight. and i did back up and pull forward under idle and was able to stop and release. no obvious issues. all signs favorable for sunset test drive friday night. then les swab saturday for alignment. thanks for your support and all the info i pulled off the board, i really couldnt have done it with out you.

Re: '69 c20 rescue kind ..... of.
on another odd note that bothers me. i found what i suspected all along, kind of.....i thought those late model chrome wheels were from a frd, but i found the mopar logo during this project.
the lesser of two evils in my opinion, but i am no fan of "part mingling" between manufacturers. even the famous 9" rear end. i know where there are some slot mags, 8 lugs in med to good condition. the are 3 hours away each way and $300. no tires. the only hitch for me is they are 16.5s and i just cant shell out the $450 to get the wheels and then at least a few hundred more IF a used set popped up on c/l. im looking for another gig that might finance the wheels and NEW tires but we'll see if it pans out..........before the slots are gone.
