Re: Spray on bedliner options

Has anyone done the sides and wheel tubs of a truck with a wood floor in it? I was thinking of doing that when I redo my truck but I would like to see it first.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

My friend got his 59 apache restored and done with line x. It looks really nice and is very durable with what he does to it. Also my other friend got his cj-5s tub sprayed with the same stuff. Both are super durable.

I'm pretty handy, so that's not an issue. Just want to make sure the do it yourself ones are even worth considering?

Anybody have experience either way, and can offer an opinion?

I shot mine with Raptor... It's urethane so it's easy to work with and spray. If you have questions I will help if I can.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

just remember, if you get a do it yourself kit, always get one that has a catalyst or is a 2 part mix,,,anything you buy off the shelf is nothing more then "a paint" meaning you might as well just spray some paint on it and it protects just the same,,stuff like raptors, and al's liners are 2 nice do it yourself kits, but for great adhesion,,you need great prep work. just a couple of things that i have learned"the hard way or course" throughout my travels..

Re: Spray on bedliner options

I used Raptor liner in my old 98 Silverado it worked well. Now that I have a 02 Silverado we did the roll in liner it sucks. I bought something similiar to the Raptor Liner Called Uliner and I'm going to Spray my Colorado Extreme Crew and My 02 Silverado. If it warms up here that's my latest project.

Sound interesting and is tintable. Found this info sheet at my favorite info source www.tcpglobal.com . Note that an etch primer is recommended.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

Thanks for the help the other day with the parts. I have to ask if anyone else has had the Rhino Liner start peeling off. The bed of my 70K20 is done with it. Still has the Rhino Liners of Washington emblem and the coating is peeling off in several places. Kind of dissapointed that a $500 liner would be doing this.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

My LineX in my '02 GMC is over ten years old now, it may have faded a little, but it's still the best of the liners out there IMO.

For DIY, take a look at UPol which my neighbor uses, and he is a professional paint/body guy. Another choice is Al's Liner which has a good reputation. But after seeing results that UPol provided, that would be my choice for doing it at home.

Kit sells for about $110 and includes the sprayer.

The skull section is the stock paint, the rest is bedliner.

Did plan to do the whole top but stopped at the hood.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

In my experience the Line-x and Rhino are the best. Pricey, but worth it. There will be some extra prep involved in your older bed to get good adhesion, which is really important in the long term durability of the liner.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

Yea it all comes down to the prep work on how long it will last. [besides UV fade]

Re: Spray on bedliner options

anything short of a full on show truck, a quality spray in liner is the way to go. protect that pickup bed from damage when you use it like a real truck. truck beds are notorious for filling up with junk and water, so rust prevention is a nice feature as well. i want to use it on the top and bottom of the floor boards AND the frame / running gear on my 72 Burb C20 instead of paint. the trick is to disassemble everything before coating so that you can get it apart again later.

Thanks, it's 1000% better than what it looked like before... I noticed that tptools.com has it on sale thru April @ 109.00 per kit which includes the gun.

I had never shot anything like that before so I mixed the first bottle and practiced on a piece of cardboard to get the feel for it and test for thickness. I shot it just like primer where you overlap about 50%. Depending on how fast you make your pass sets the amount/thickness you end up with. The worst part of the job was masking the bed off, shooting the stuff took 10 minutes and was a breeze.
I don't plan to haul much with my truck so it should be fine. I did however spray a John Deere Gator with it and it seems very durable for hauling wood, brush etc. I've sprayed a boat trailer on the walking surfaces and it's great there compared to carpet or the glue down rubber also...

Re: Spray on bedliner options

The bed of my '69 C20 was sprayed by the PO so I don't know what was used. It was even colored to match the truck paint. IMO I wish it was the stock bed and not spray-lined. There is no reason for it to be lined because it's not a work truck. I would have rather had the original bed.

Re: Spray on bedliner options

Line-X or any other brand that has spun oiff of their superior process are the only ones worth their salt if yiou ask me. Other than being thick and durable, it looks fantastic. It LOOKS professional, like a factory job. That is because they do what cottage cheese, I mean Rhino, and do it yourselfers can't do. They use a hot process that lays it on think with a very nice vinyl top-like texture, not just some crap globbed or smeared on
