Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
It looks like you done real well on the price. That truck is well worth that price. As far as overheating, problems I have seen was from inadequite cooling system, or lead foot problem. I would just make sure your cooling system is in good working order. I know guys that race circle track with 600hp using 400 sbc engines. They dont overheat.

Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
Got me a new fuel pump ordered because it was leaking and a rebuild kit for the 750 double pumper. A guy I work with has desktop dyno and put the info I know about the truck in. Total came to 398hp. Once I get build paperwork I will know exactly what is in her. Cant wait to get it on the road.

Got some old slickers on the truck just so I can drive it around the yard. I got the carb rebuilt over the holidays, but have to get it on sometime soon.

Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
BE VERY CAREFULL,,, I havent read of anyone saying this! When these truck set for years the GAS TANK collects moisture causing rust, I'm a BIG fan of Seafoam, however it's a cleaner, with saying that keep in mind that it breaks the scaling of rust and crap lose in the tank and you will suck this stuff up into that rebuilt carb and ruin the rebuild you spent money on!
In the past we have removed the tank and ran a 2ft piece of log chain into the tank and shook it up real good and flush it out with water until there's no crap running out of it, we use a white rag to filter what comes out of the tank! And ALWAYS run a inline seethrough filter between the fuel pump and carb, not the glass type they can break and cause a fire in the engine department, hope this helps out. Donnie

Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
Thanks for info. I did replace fuel filter and the tank was full of gas when I got it. I drained the old gas first. I have not noticed any rust as of yet.

Sweet truck! You and your daughter will get years of enjoyment out of that one. It looks like she is already hooked. As for overheating, my .040 over 400 has no problem at all keeping cool but I used a griffin aluminum rad. I think a good 3 core would be fine too. Have fun with that truck.

Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
I had a .030 over 400 with 350 rods and keith black pistons, 4 row radiator no over heat problems at all. I still have it just sold the truck without it. Only problem I had was excessive amount traffic tickets (sure was fun)

Got the truck washed today. Replaced break pads, break lines, flushed trans and replace filter, and stuck some rallies on here. Been driving it all weekend.

Re: 72 chevy siting for 5 years. Process to get it running?
Got a neat story behind it too. The whole reason I started my red baron project was this green truck. One of my good friends go it for his 16th birthday present. we are almost 40 now and I have been trying to buy this truck since high school. He let it sit up for the last 5 years and finally around Christmas time he asked if I wanted it. Really brings back some high school memories riding in this truck back in the day. I am driving my wife crazy with it lol. Thanks for all the nice compliments guys!
