removing door panel cover
A easy quick question about removing a door panel.
I have a 1968 with like the foam/rubber arm rest. I have everthing disconnected except the arm rest. Whats the best way to get that off? I used a screw driver but could not get anything to turn. I'm down to the ideal of drilling the head of the screw off but I can't see what I'm doing. [don't know what I'm doing / not even sure it's a screw] Thanks for any ideals in advance. P.S. I love this web site and surf to it most everyday to read all the good info. |

Yes, I used phillps but could not get it to turn. I even tried to pry it out from behind the panel to pop the screws out but that didn't work.
What's a snapnut? Now that I have a little room behind the panel I guess I will try some penetrating oil next - - - Oil worked, I got the arm rest off! Now to work on the door handle button that was pushed in sideways (door won't stay closed, latched) and the window which hadn't moved up or down in 20 years [so far the run tracks look new, I guess I'll oil the commponents and work it] Last edited by webhendrix; 10-21-2003 at 04:42 PM. |

Get yourself a flashlight and look to see the head of the screw. Just because these started out with phillips head screws doesn't mean that they are still in there. 2 of mine were flatheads.

Mine were philips. Use lots of penitrating oil. Best bet would be to use a rachet with a philips head. Your gonna need the leverage the rachet gives. I personally used a screwdriver with some channel locks for my extra leverage. it is tough if they have been in a while.
