What is the best, safest way to remove the stainless trim around the front windshield on my 65 C-10? I will be replacing the windshield and gasket. I also can get another complete set off a parts truck too but don't want to damage it. I had a hard time safely removing some of the trim from my 62 Impala SS and don't want more trouble here. Thanks.

I took the whole windshield and gasket out first then removed the trim when I could flex the rubber on the ground.

The trim is retained in a slot in the gasket. It can only be installed or removed after the glass is off the cab. To install the trim, the gasket is mounted on the glass and stretched to a relaxed fit. Then the trim is inserted into the slot. If the seal isn't going to be reused, in some applications it's easiest to cut the gasket apart to free the trim.

Never try to remove the trim from a windshield installed in the truck as this will bend and damage the J hook mounting inside the gasket and probably bend the visible part of the trim. When removing the windshield it is recommended to move the joint caps to one side or the other to prevent binding, and they should be left off when installing the windshield and snapped in place as the last step.

If you are replacing the gasket you can use a razor knife to cut out the old one.

We just removed the SS windshield trim from a 65 that I bought for chrome trim only....It was so hard we had to just use a razor blade utility knife and cut the rubber from the outside of the windshield, it was sooo brittle we just took what was left out in chunks, had to bust up the old cracked windshield to get it all out without bending the trim....
