What sway bar to use ?

I want to fit a sway bar to my 69 c10, what can you recommend, I have looked at the ridetech, just wondering what else is out there.
Thanks Mark.

Re: What sway bar to use ?

I've intalled a couple of original ones and they work just perfect. Couldn't ask for a more noticeable improvement from single part.

Re: What sway bar to use ?

For the price a frontt sway bar is the best bang for the buck add-on you can do. I put a 1 1/4 inch from a 70's Camper Special 3/4 ton and added the polyurethane bushing and brackets for lowered trucks that ECE sells and could fel the difference in handling right away.

Re: What sway bar to use ?

Their is no best sway bar. Sway bars reduce body roll and reduce traction. Its best to do quite a bit of reading and knowing where you want to end up before spending a bunch of money.
Stock bars from square bodies work great for the money.

Re: What sway bar to use ?

What benefit do the lower mounts from ece do? Is that needed? Or how much drop do you need to have before this are required?

Thanks,
Ryan

A popular drop is 4 inches in the front and I think with that amount of drop ( or more ) and using stock brackets which are I'm sure are another 4 inch drop you could hit the sway bar on curbstones etc. I got the lowered brackets cause I needed new brackets and they weren't expensive and unless you get down on your hands and knees you cant see the sway bar on my stock height truck even with the 29 inch high tires, and I like that you can't see the sway bar.

I'm sorry I thought this was common suspension tuning knowledge. Why else would sway bars come in sizes less than 4", why that when allowed racecars use adjustable sway bars, when you have 4 springs pushing down evenly on 4 tires you have the most traction available.
Blah blah blah, roll center, yada yada yada, camber curver, wonk wonk wonk, tire deflection, knuck knuck knuck, chassis flex, yougettheidearight? If not go to the suspension side of the forum and read "make it handle"

Thanks for all of the replies, much appreciated. I should mention is is on air bags and rides quite low. I see that hotchkis has a 25% off sale on at the moment too.

I have Hellwig bars, front and rear .. The rear one is a little bit of a pain to mount but overall I really like it.

Purchase a front sway bar from POL & had to modify the mounting brackets to get it to fit.I think Helwig would be better quality. You get what you pay for.

Re: What sway bar to use ?

So with a 2.5 drop in front do you think the lowered brackets are needed?

I'm guessing when changing from a stock sway bar to a cpp bar you need to drill a hole in the lower control arm as they are mounted differently?

Re: What sway bar to use ?

I'm also trying to figure out what to do for the rear as there are a few different types. For example, Hotchkis has 2 different ones. Do they all perform the same?

I have the ECP front bar with lower brackets. I like it just fine.

For the rear I bought a Z-28 rear sway bar.

It takes a little work but it was worth it. You need spacers for the frame mounts but they are easy enough to make. I have a extra set by the way.

I bought the clamps for 3" exshaust to clamp the bar to the axle.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
