How many 69-72 Blazers left?
Random question, but I'm curious and thought I'd ask the experts out there who seem to be parting out an endless supply of these trucks; how many do you think are left on the road? With total production just over 80k 69-72 Blazers (over half being delivered in 72), do you think that there are half/40k left that are road worthy? 60k?
Part 2: With over 230,000 Broncos produced between 66-77, why do they seem to command higher pricing? |

My guess is there is about half left and half of those are probably on the road.
I think Broncos are more recognizable - perhaps because of better marketing - thus people are willing to pay more.

Re: How many 69-72 Blazers left?
I'd guess as you two do at about 40,000 left. These vehicles were more often than not used hard in off road settings and were more subject to rust than the same era trucks in some body areas due to the removable top/weatherstripping on windshield frame. I haven't seen restored early Broncos selling for more than a restored 69-72 Blazer in my neck of the woods or in my trips to Carlisle. It has been the opposite.

Re: How many 69-72 Blazers left?
Yes Jim, the Broncos at the recent M0 auction had some darn good bids but out of the 5 I saw in the results only 2 sold, a 72 at $22000 and a 74 at $39000. The others, a 68, 72, and a 69 got as high as $16000, $22,000, and $35000 respectively but didn't meet the seller's reserve. They were all fully restored vehicles.

Re: How many 69-72 Blazers left?
My 72 blazer is still on the road, drive it daily. I see a few here and there living in the desert South West where they don't rust. Back East where I'm originally from they've been pretty much extinct since about 1980 Because that's about as long as they last in the rust belt. Just depends on where you live I guess.
As far as the Bronco's, they definately command higher prices out here, and you have more to choose from. They have always been fairly pricey even back in the 80's and 90's when compared to other 4x4's. Just a great little package, V8 power, built tough, removable tops, and it's good looking. It's everything a 1st gen blazer is on a slightly smaller scale. My wife loves the Bronco's and I'll admit I like them too. If I could have found one as decent as my blazer when I was looking around I'd be driving that instead, and not ashamed to admit it. My wife loves driving the Bronco's but hates driving my blazer. Just the size difference bothers her. That's why we've had so many jeep CJ's over the years. I see the blazers creeping up in price this past year though, and selling for enough money to cover restoration costs in some cases. Only time will tell. I saw several Bronco's at BJ last year sell for good money, only a couple of Blazers to pic from though. Interesting to see what this year brings in a few weeks. |

Re: How many 69-72 Blazers left?
Oh yeah...forgot those, Jimmy's too...I guess that's representative of production numbers, should be interesting. Just seems that the better optioned, rarer k5s should bring more dough...well see.
I'll Probably go to Thurs or Fri. Lots of good stuff that weekend, Russo&Steele, as well as the RM at the Biltmore (which is awesome if you haven't gone) Posted via Mobile Device |
