Np203 hard shifting into 4 high and low

Anybody know why a 203 would be hard shifting into 4 high and 4 low? Going into 2 is no problem. I have tried it with the truck in neutral and not moving and while moving in gear and it doesn't help. I have to literally hit the shifter as hard as I can several times before it goes into 4

Spray the shifter down with WD40 and try again.

That Rube Goldberg shifter setup certainly leaves something to be desired...

Yeah, the shifter is the problem. The guts are a bunch of bacically flat plates sliding back and forth inside a non-sealed housing. They get gritty and the "lock" lever won't move. Its a fairly simple thing to remove disassemble are re-install. In most cases, it is easier to do from the top. Just pull up the floor covering and the center "hump" panel.

Ok thanks. It does have the part time conversion on it. I will try just using wd-40 first to see if that helps.

Search for 203 twin stick. You will see why they have problems. I fought mine then modified it to work as a twin stick. Only took a couple of hours.
