Filler neck grommit
I just installed my tank and a new grommit on my 63 but it doesn't look quite right. Does the wide part of the grommit face down or up? Maybe I just have the tube sticking to far out..not sure. Thanks

Re: Filler neck grommit
There is a notch on the bottom of the opening for the filler tube on the cab, line bump on the grommet with this notch.

Re: Filler neck grommit
Now i'm wondering if I got the correct grommit. I don't recall there being a bump in the grommit to fit the notch on the truck.

Re: Filler neck grommit
Just put mine on yesterday, and can confirm what the others already said. Sheetmetal has a slight notch where the little bump on the grommet fits into, and the thickest part of the grommet that shows points straight back. The little bump is easy to miss if you aren't looking for it, but once you see it, it's impossible to miss. I put a little bit of grease around the inside of the grommet where it slides over the filler tube, and a little in the groove that hugs the sheetmetal. Slid on fairly easy and then just had to work it in like working on a bicycle tire.

Re: Filler neck grommit
The widest part of the grommet appears to be towards the rear of truck. The alignment bump on the grommet can be seen easily from the backside of the grommet. you will also see the bump on the inside of the rubber grommet where it contacts the notch on the cab to keep it from turning.
