New to the 67-72 crowd, 67 Stepside

New to the 67-72 crowd, usually hang out in the 60-66. I have seen this truck for several years up the road from me. I have seen it driven all the time too up until recently. Coming home Saturday it was finally for sale. I am 3rd owner. No rust that I could find, just some paint peeling in spots. I picked it up a couple hours ago, drove it home. Runs rough, looks like it has some carb issues. It is not the original motor, motor is from a 72. Guy that sold it to me was 91 and could not drive it anymore with manual steering. He has had it since 1979. The only thing I saw that didnt look original is they have a piece of steel in the bed instead of wood. They did a nice job with that as well, not a hack job.
















This last pic is the base of the carb, it is real wet. Guy said may need a new carb, maybe you guys have some ideas about a quick fix or known issues.



Not sure what to do with it yet other than drive it

Nice truck, a real survivor, congrats! I would do something about that fuel filter right above the exhaust manifold, though.

Carb might just need a rebuild kit.

Nice rig. I too, am the 3rd owner of a '68 Stepside -- only I bought mine in 1973. I like the spare-on-the drivers-rear-fender feature, that's rare. Hubcaps are rare now, too.
On my 292 L6, I went to a 4-Bbl Holley on an Offy intake and Clifford headers in 1978, so I've forgotten everything about the Rochester Mv Monojet.

We have no idea what the plans are as of yet. I do know we plan on keeping this look, ie keep the paint the way it is as well as the wheels if possible.

Might bag it or static drop it, might swap out the motor unsure as of yet. If it were the original motor would probably just freshen it up and leave it in there but since its not it leaves options open. We have a fresh 454 sitting here and a lt-1, so who knows. Wife doesnt like all the extra space under the hood so she suggested we fill it. Not making any rash decisions at the moment though.

It's perfect.Drop it with some wheels and drive the crap outta it.That is the exact truck I would build if I were building a pick-up.Nothing screams old school truck like a small window stepper.I would even keep the 6 and 3 OTT.

Just rebuild the carb,tune it up and do whatever safety stuff it needs.

thats a great find...looks like the carb needs a rebuild, and you can always put a HEI dist. in it and it will start and run better, fresh plugs.

on the gas line you can run a steal line from the pump to the carb, i ran mine around the back instead of the front...i have insulation on mine in this pic because of an old exhaust leak heating the line. now its fixed.

awesome find I love it!!!! now i know what mine looked like in it's hey day! they would've been identical twins.
if mine wasnt blackend and hacked by the po. (and a lil' by me)
one day when its all back together it will be damn close too yours except with some minor tweeks.
I wouldnt change a thing on yours besides cleaning it up theres nothing wrong with a good clean oe truck. with how original it is it would be a shame too change what has lasted all these years.
