Tach Installation

Ok I am not sure if I should post this on the electrical or mechanical side if so Im sorry....

I have a tach that I wanna install on my 1971 C20 however it has a newer V8. It looks like it's a 1986 and there is not coil like I use to connect my jeeps. I think this thing has the coil built into the distributor.

My tach has a about 4 wires I am assuming some are for lighting and the rest run to the distributor?

Re: Tach Installation

Sounds like you have a HEI and it has a spot on the cap right next to the power wire for a tach connection.

Re: Tach Installation

What 69GWC said. There are two posts on the distributor cap. One is marked BAT and the other is marked TACH.

As far as wiring the tach itself, I'd do a google search for the manufacturer. You can probably find some installation instructions online.

Best advice has already been given. Look at your mfg.'s wiring diagram.

My Autometer has four wires, too.
