power steering component- what is it?
I got my '80 C20 over to my garage area. Looking over the power steering items, I ran across a diaphragm looking item, plumbed into the hose. My Genuine Chevrolet Service Manual (found it behind the seat! With a factory electrical diagram manual! Oh, boy!) shows all sorts of hose, pump and steering box configurations, but nowhere is this item. So, what is it (I think it's probably some sort of buffer or pressure regulator) and is it critical, can I ditch it and not worry? It seems to take up some space that it probably doesn't need to.

I have never seen that before. I would guess maybe a expansion area for the hot fluid maybe! I wouldn't think it would get that bad though.
Then again I have a power steering cooler on my 71 truck. The only reason I have it is my dad had it brand new and gave it to me.

Re: power steering component- what is it?
Thanks, Classic Heartbeat. I didn't think it was OE or necessary. I've seen dampers on some import systems, but this didn't seem exactly kosher.
Well, onward, into the fog! The '70 C10 project ensues. Posted via Mobile Device
