Need advice on bed assembly
Hey guys i have bought used bed sides and a front panel and all the cross members for a wood bed. I was going to paint each peice seperatly then assemble, But i noticed that the bed sides set on the wood after assemble, I am not sure how to go about putting it back together after painted. My question is should i assemble before i paint. but i do not want the wood in place before i paint.
Cross members set on frame wood sets on crossmembers bed sides set on wood when people replace wood how do they keep the bed in place. Any suggestions Thanks

Re: Need advice on bed assembly
I would assemble the sides and front together and then paint it, makes it easy since you can stand inside the bed to paint the inside. Plus doingbit thus way allows you to paint the bolt heads were the sides bolt to the front panel. Then just slide the wood strips in and bolt it all together when your done.

Re: Need advice on bed assembly
Be sure to do a dry run first. You should assemble the steel parts of the bed and then like black_sheep454 says slip the wood under the lip of the bedsides. Once you see everything is going to fit, dissasemble and paint the bed. While you are painting the ned, apply the finnish you are going to use on the wood. Try not to be excessive on the wood finnish, because you will find that dementionaly the wood will become larger. (because of the finnish) Then reassemble the bed and install the wood. WES

Re: Need advice on bed assembly
Does anybody have a picture of a bed setting on a stand while they were painting without the wood and crossrails on it. Just looking for ideas. Thanks

Re: Need advice on bed assembly
I slipped some temporary shims in to hold bed in place while I did my work, I even put a bolt through it to make sure I didn't bump it off the end of the cross sill.

Re: Need advice on bed assembly
Put it together first and paint it. No way to keep from scratching it.
