Thanks. I forgot to mention that we fired it up for a little. It pegged the oil pressure gauge then it came down a little after I kicked down the choke. So oil pressure is up good. It has a 60lb. gauge in it.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I got my water pump shims. I got the pulleys/fan all together. I tested some new temp switches and they are doing the same thing that the one installed is doing. ?? I ran the motor a bit and started hearing a tap. So I shut her down and pulled the valve covers and I have one rocker that is real loose. I think that I may have a stuck lifter. I'll get my buddy to come over and check it out. The drama continues.

I've had that happen before....1/2 the rocker nuts were backing off on my old SBC stroker. Replaced them with a new set of locknuts and all was well again.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

My buddy is busy as any good mechanic is, but he told me a couple things to do but I think it is collapsed. I pumped oil into the pushrod hole and while it moved up it sank quickly with every pump. He may get a chance to come over this weekend and give me a final diagnosis.

I want to get into it and see but I'll wait for him to see it. I would like to make sure the lifters hole is getting oil and that will let me know if its got any trash in it. But my guess is its collapsed. I put a stiff wire in the lifter and had it on the edge and llfted the wire up till it went over the small wire clip. about a 1/4'' collapse.

I still like my truck and once the bugs are worked out I will enjoy driving it.

Bryan I haven't done an LS swap and I know a lot of guys have but I'm kinda old fashioned. I'm gonna have to one day though. I'd need somebody to guide me through all the changes. But for now, I'll keep plugging away at it.

P.S. I hate mechanic work.

I think these are the originals. I'll ask my buddy what he thinks. Can't hurt to have new ones huh?

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Chuck, I feel your pain. I have had a ton of setbacks from major to minor, and I guess its part of the deal. Shoot, I've got 2 problems right now, lol. If it were easy, everyone would have one of these cool rides. Let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do, if it's turning wrenches, or handing them to ya, or head scratchin', or cussin. Maybe I need to come up there and talk in that silly voice, like I did when you and Rus were here last. seemed to help!

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

The symptoms that you are describing sound like a dead lifter. After hearing the engine run and how quiet it was; for this to happen all of the sudden it almost has to be the lifter.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

I heard it while it was at about 2k rpm let off and tick was louder. I pulled it back inside and pulled the valve covers. One rocker was real loose but the nut didn't look like it was backed off any.

Can you take the pushrod and push down on the lifter and see if there is any movement?

I can't push down on it at all. When I put oil in the push rod with my oil can , I can feel it lifting then going back down.
