Historic license plates

I finally got my Southern California bucket registered in Georgia. $20 plus $6 postage and now sportin '69 black plates.

Mine came from a town around 50 miles away, it's on my 67 and McNairy is the county I live in! Pure luck in a plastic bin at a flea market

I paid $23.99 for the plate and shipping. Then $20 to the great state of Georgia for registration and plate fees. And another $6 for shipping the plate and documents to and from Atlanta and Los Angeles. So....Grand Total $49.99 invested and that includes all registration fees for the year.

Well I have a question for you all ? How many of your pickups still have it's original license plate on it from when it was new ? The 71 GMC I just got still has both it's original Oregon plates......

My truck has both original license plates as well as the dealership frames.

The 68 GMC I just bought has a black and yellow California plate on front and the dealer trim from the Sacremento dealership. I have found a 68 Mississippi plate but, I am hoping to find one with my county on it.

Some states allowed you to continue to utilize the origianal plate whereas some states made you get a new plate everytime they produced a new design. I know Georgia was changing about every 7 years from late 70's till early 90's. And they recently started to allow 1969 and OLDER to use period correct plates.

California is going to start producing the black and yellow as well as the blue and yellow plates for historic cars who what to use them. I'm not a fan of reproduction or refinishing license plates. I like years of wisdom worn into them. LOL

I got real lucky on this 71 GMC ! Tried to buy it in 91 but owner was not willing, would ask every once in a while, with the same reply, NO ! He said yes this past November. I am only 2nd owner and received the original Title, both original Oregon plates and yes the Dealer ID sticker is still on the tailgate ! Lynch Cadillac Pontiac GMC. I am having a blast putting it back on the road, after sitting for 12 years.......

Just picked all of these up, but none are 1969 New Mexico tags. The whole back wall of my barn will be covered in license plates sooner or later. Anybody have a 69' NM plate hanging around they want to get rid of?

That's pretty cool. My truck is just an old farm truck from central California. Previous owners have since swapped rear ends and all sorts of things. PO prior to me rebuilt the engine and TH400. He put a potato cam in it trying to make it into some kind of street truck. I don't mind the angry flow master exhaust or the lobe sounds. But I'm not trying to turn it into a hotrod. I want to keep that historic farm truck look. I noticed that the old dealer plate frames from that period are listed for rediculous amounts of money on ebay. So I don't think I will go that historic. LOL

I still have the original California Black Plate on the front of my truck even though I live in northern Michigan. We only have to have a rear plate. Technically I don't think it is allowed, but on classic vehicles they show a little grace. So I proudly display the original plate. It sparks conversation about it being a California truck.

My '69 does, but the '70 does not.

Got mine registered today!! And, yes, it's painted to match the truck!

Sweet. Who painted them for you? And what was the original color of the plates?

The original colors were a white background with dark green lettering and numbers.

I painted it myself. I used some blue paint from my leftover touchup paint, then brushed silver on the letters and numbers. Then I just used some spray can clear.

My 72 plates, I can't remember how many years Texas had green letter plates but I don't think many.

My state issues a new tag when they change and every time they sell the plate get turned in and new ones issued. My '72 from CA had the blue plates with current registration('01). I have quite a few proper year tags from states I'd like to live . I alsi just got Maryland Farm Truck tags I'll be using.
