'86 Custom Deluxe - New daily driver.

Within the coming week(s), I'll be purchasing an 1986 Chevy Custom Deluxe 4x4. It's a 3 speed manual with the granny low. All original except the engine. It came stock with a 305 and the original owner put a 350 in it. The 350 has 57k miles on it while the truck overall has 167k miles (so around 110k on original 305).

It is currently a daily driver from whom I'm buying it from now, but I will be driving it a lot further daily than he has. He's only put around 15-18k miles on it in the 4 years he's been driving it daily.

I am thinking that right out the gate I'll get new belts and hoses run, plugs and plug wires, change the oil, oil filter, air filter, etc. Is there anything else mechanically I can jump on to be proactive on certain wear and tear? This truck will be going from about 10-20 miles of "around town" mileage to 40-50 miles of mostly interstate travel everyday. I'll post pictures when I get a chance. I'm really excited about getting it fixed up.

Personally I would check the condition of all that stuff before I drop the dime to replace it. I would add check the tranny oil and your brakes.

I have the same exact truck lol same trans and same deal with the engine was originally 305 but has an older 350 in it now. I'm not sure what your gear ratio is but better start saving money cause that thing will eat you alive in gas. I would def go with a good tune up

properly tuned with 373 gears and no overdrive should get you 14-15 mpg if you keep your foot out of it. for the life of me i dont know why people expect a truck to get honda gas mileage my dually is my daily, what kind if mileage do you think that gets? 4l80e swap in the works
