tax return time. what should i buy

I'm looking at getting some of my money back from the government. I might end up with $1000 to spend on my truck. What upgrades y'all recommend?

Here is a list but I don't know what I need/want most. Feel free to suggest anything I don't have listed.

I would say wheels and tires but I need the rear swapped to 5 lugs 1st.

1. Move gas tank under bed
2. New carpet
3. 5 lug axles for rear(I have 5 lug front but 6 lug rear)
4. power steering
5. Street demon carb (my quadrajet needs new choke and complete rebuild)
6. New gauges

Well it sounds like #5 is the most important, I mean it does not matter if it has the other things if it does not run..

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

A 427 would be awesome.
Yeah I'm definitley gonna have to get a carb of some kind. It runs now but with no choke have to keep gassing it to warm up has a off idle stumble and the bearings in it are worn.

I have a five lugger you can have for $75... you pay shipping

Dad just bought the new Street Demon for the truck we are building. Its a new carb on the market, I wonder what it will sound like and how it will perform.

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

Beetle how much to ship to 36360? Yeah the street demon looks cool I've read everything I can find about em and it all sounds good. There was a video I found where Chuck Woolery installed and tested one on his chevelle. It was kinda likes commercial online.

About buying tools there are alot of big ones i need but I don't have a shop and not enough $ to build one.

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

In my humble opinion:

1. Move gas tank under bed / #6 If you must but I like the tank where the General put it.
2. New carpet / #2 makes the whole interior look better.
3. 5 lug axles for rear(I have 5 lug front but 6 lug rear) / #1 get them matched up.
4. power steering / #3 easier on the arms.
5. Street demon carb (my quadrajet needs new choke and complete rebuild) #5 I prefer a qjet and the are easy to repair/rebuild.
6. New gauges / #4 do they exsisiting gauges work?

I am sure before the end of this, you will be so confused that you will do what you already have in mind.
Have fun.

Along those lines, adjust your W2 so you get your money throughtout the year instead of the government holding it and paying you no interest. I'd rather owe a little than get any back. Think about it, you would get almost $100 a month raise.

But since you are already here:
Power Steering
5-lugs rear
fix your gauges
Fuel injection retrofit instead of any carburetor

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

If you look around you can probably do several of them. You should be able to find a diff for around $150 to $200 carpet for $100. Get a power steering for a junked 73-87 for around $100. Carb for $300 to $400. Just be patient and look around and you might get it all.

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

I would do
#1 New Carb (maybe a used holley or nicer quadrajet)
#2 Power Steering
#3 Carpet
#4 Rearend
#5 Gas Tank
Carb and power steering make the truck more enjoyable to drive. Carpet makes in interior look brand new and make it more enjoyable to drive. Rearend isn't necessary for function or driveability, just one of those things that lingers in your head, and gas tank is safer in the cab then under the bed. And moving the tank requires body work and that takes a lot of time and $$$$

Send the Q-jet out for a thorough refurb.

PS will make it feel like a different truck.

Gauges are good to have.

Re: tax return time. what should i buy

Where do u get carpet for $100? I've seen it about 160 or more. I'm putting some in savings just not all of it. It's scary to adjust my w2 cause I have 2 jobs and 1 of them is self employed so I have to deal with a 1099 and self employment taxes. I feel better leaving it like it is. There have been many years where I had to pay.

.
First order of business should be to update your withholding so that you get $0 refund. Letting this tax and spend government keep your $1000 for a year with NO INTEREST is just not smart. Years ago, with help from a tax advisor, I was able to find a way to keep my own money. I generally have to pay a very small amount and I don't pay until April 15. This may sound strange at first, but would your bank loan you money without charging you interest? Didn't think so ! Sorry for hi-jacking this thread, but I couldn't help myself.
