1966 Chevrolet Pick-Up Restoration.
Newbie here, I've been reading quite a few of the threads for the past half-year and I thought I'd finally add my own little story. I recently bought a 1966 Chevy pick-up (about half a year ago) for 500 dollars and some free work on someone's truck. 500 dollars isn't much, right? So wrong. Haha. This truck (was) in awful condition. I'll post some pictures of it. I didn't start taking pictures until I already got the doors and fenders off, but, they'll do. Anyways, I hope to get this truck done by June 23rd, which, is my 16th birthday. Can anyone post a few pictures on this thread of their 66? I have the Custom Cab with the big window on the back.. So that'd be better if you had pictures of that instead of the small window.

Here's mine. Just need to add the side molding and finish up the bumper. Sorry it's only a small window ;^)

Re: 1966 Chevrolet Pick-Up Restoration.
I'm so surprised that I got two responses already! Haha. I'm really hoping I get some more and Chuck, that truck is absolutely gorgeous. I actually wish I had the small window, it just adds more of a sleek look to it. And the bed looks amazing. I'm pretty nervous about doing the bed on mine.. I'm trying to keep it as classic as possible, besides the fact of taking the molding off, I just don't love the molding. But I'm hoping to use a really dark red wood, to match the interior. I'm painting it all black. (Going to be an awful lot of blocking.)

Re: 1966 Chevrolet Pick-Up Restoration.
Welcome to the forum. Looks like many of the other projects we've seen on here, lots of work. Good to see you setting the goal of June for your b-day. You have a great start going. Some words of encouragement now for later, do not get discouraged, or give up. I started my project at the same age you are now and got to drive it awhile before taking the next steps. 1996 was the last time my truck was on the road on its own power. In the last two weeks, I've made more progress than in the last 15 years of seeing my dreams come to fruition. Don't get discouraged, or give up. Things take time. Set your goals in steps, small steps, but obtainable steps. Hope you share more pics. Keep the finished vision in the forfront.
Bret

Re: 1966 Chevrolet Pick-Up Restoration.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, Bret. I'll be posting some pictures tomorrow of the (hopefully) ready to paint bedside, until then, here's a question.. What have y'all done about your gas tanks? I'm sure most of you moved them out from behind the seat, but what about your gas cap? Did you keep that in the same spot? I've seen a few pictures of people people moving it to the bed and I really like the look of that, but my dad says it'd be a hassle putting gas in it. Personally, I think it adds a bit coolness to it. And what about engines? I'm sure I'm not the only person here who doesn't want to keep the old In-line six in there! I was thinking about the Chevrolet 400 that's been sitting beside my dads '67 Camaro for the last 20 years. (Which will definitely be the next project after the truck.)

Re: 1966 Chevrolet Pick-Up Restoration.
So I got the Left Bed Side flat as a board last night and I primed it one last time.. I'm gonna attach a picture to this message.. I'm hoping to have it ready to paint by tonight, but I'm gonna start on the left Bed Side tonight regardless.

And Jocko, I really like the classic blue you have on it! You shouldn't have sold it, I bet you got a lot head-turns with that!
