Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
I've seen one on a 2001 Tahoe but couldn't get any install info on it. The dash trim opening appears to be big enough for a double din face but Scosche only makes a single din adapter. But Metra does make a double din adapter.
So what is the story here? Will a double din fit in my 2002 GMC Sierra or not? |

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
NOOOO. You have to do some modding. One way is to cut the dash bezel and make it bigger and use fiberglass and repaint it. the easier way which I did this install on my brothers 99 silverado I had to change up a bunch of stuff. The factory radio is like a 1.5 din, so what you have to do is buy a dash bezel from like a 2005 or similar. Then you have to buy a rado trey from that same year. I had to mod it a little bit but it works fine. then the last step is to move the fan controls down a little bit and bring it out a little bit as well. I just made wood spacers for that. If you want pictures I can get them for you if needed. Hope this helps and not confuse you any more haha.

You can make anything fit with a Dremel and some fab skills.
If they make an install kit, it might work. I just bought a '92 Silverado with the gawd awful dash install that I will either remove or redo.

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
The radio face opening is bigger than the specs show for double din faces, which tells me it'll fit plus the Amazon listing of a double din mount.
But then if you look at the Mertra website, they don't list a double din mount for a 2002 Sierra. A wrong Amazon listing wouldn't surprise me, but the face opening in my dash is, as measured by me & my tape measure, bigger than double din listings dimensions. So I dunno what to think without buying everything & trying but don't like dealing with Returns. |

hmmm......I don't know then. I was always led to believe the 99 dash and 02 dash were the same. I've been wrong before.

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
Details please!
What mounting kit? Any mods or direct bolt-in after a mounting kit was installed? I do see what appears to be a small gap at the bottom of the AC controls. Did he use the later model dash surround piece (which i think is bigger)? |

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
The stock opening is not big enough, however, it can get there with very little trimming. I used a kit from thedetailss.com and I loved it. Here's my thread.

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
No kit just used newer style pieces.
http://pages.ebay.com/motors/link/?n...d=271155597071 Here's a link of what two pieces you need to buy. Even on some ebay listings for the bezel it'll say in the subscription that it fits 99-02 for double din install. I'm on my phone right now but ill get you a complete writeup when I'm on my computer tonight or tomorrow. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
There's really no cutting or hacking which is why I went that way, his original bezel had the dark wood grain on it and didn't want to mess it up. Old bezel snaps off, unscrewed the old radio trey, new one needed trimed a little bit, put radio in, made spacers for fan controls, then snapped new bezel in place. Not the "custom" look that I love but this made it look close to factory.

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
Probably not the thread I read then. It talked about eliminating the flip-up door for the cig plugs & having to cut the ashtray slide-out to clear the newer model bezel.

Re: Double DIN in 2002 Sierra?
Nahhh, it doesn't open all the way no but still accessable. Idk, I'm not trying to tell you one way is better! Haha, just trying to lend a hand, I didn't want to do much cutting and glassing which made me choose this way of doing it. good luck!!
