Panel trim color?
It's been a while. I been kinda busy with work. This is a question for the masses. What was the original color of the trim around the gauge panel? Was it the silver that I see in so many old salvage yard trucks? I'm doubting that they were chrome. The reason for asking is the "New one" I bought and installed a few years ago has/had the chrome but is now discolored to the point it looks bad. The rest of the panel is good so I'm looking at just scuffing it and painting it the silver color. Wht do y'all think?

Re: Panel trim color?
Chevys were silver,at least some GMC's were body/trim color.I'm pretty sure it was paint since I've seen tons faded, worn but never peeling.

Re: Panel trim color?
My 69 Chevy came new with a black face with chrome around the edges amd gauges just as the reproductions do. There are some subtle differences between the original and some of the reproductions, but they have pretty much nailed the color scheme. I think the 67s, and perhaps the 68s, were silver paint where the 69 and up were chrome.
Edit: I added a couple pictures showing mine in 2010. The interior shown is totally original except the steering wheel and aftermarket gauges beneath the heater/A/C controls. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 02-12-2013 at 01:17 PM. |
