Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

Well I'm new to the forum circuit, but by heart an old gearhead. I'm putting together my first 72swb with an 04 LQ4/4l80e combo. On a tight budget (wife was laid off)
I can't afford the $500+ Chevy truck LS swap headers so this what I have a question on. I've read some threads but could still use a little advise.
I understand factory manifolds will not work? I have a torch and a welder...let me know
If I install manifolds I have to rent a trailer and take the truck to en exhaust shop so they can connect my exhaust. If install long tube headers then I can save the cash for the rental of the trailer and the exhaust shop cost and connect the exhaust myself.
So will Newer F-body long tubes fit? I can find them on Ebay for about $200.00
Will second gen F-body LS swap headers fit? I can find them for the same price.
What other type of inexpensive long tube headers would you suggest. Thanks for your support!

Re: Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

Why cant you just limp it into a exhaust shop with only manifolds on it? I'm going to get exhaust installed next week and am only running block hugger shorties. But I'm also only going like 3 miles to exhaust shop.

Re: Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

Thanks for the responses. Long tubes have always free'd up more hp.
I live out in the sticks and the closest exhaust shop is on about 14 miles out on a busy road. I'm planning on using the truck to tow my Camaro to the race track. Which is 2 hours away. So it will have to perform some. It's getting the same paint scheme as my Camaro. Atomic orange with silver.

Re: Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

I ran f body hedders the cheap ones from ebay. but it really depends on how you set your engine in. if its high in the saddle your ok. but I have a body drop so I made my own mounts and had to set the engine lower. that made the primary come into contact with the lower control arm so I had to set it back 1.25" then it cleared. also the f body headers will kick out towards the frame if the engine is high they should fall right between the rails. again mine did not so I had to notch the frame and take a little off the ds collector. a lot of work but I think the set back and drop will help weight distribution

Looking to do the same, where did you pick up your 4th gen long tubes? I found a set on ebay for $107 and am thinking about giving them a try.

Re: Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

Why not these? Says they are made for c10's and many people have used them and say they fit great.

Thanks.

Thanks.
Those look like a great option. I was just looking to save a few bucks. Im local to the eBay seller so I can test it for fitment and worst case I'll have to pay their 15% restocking fee. My plan is to turbo the car in a year so I'm trying to keep the costs down to get the car running. I plan on boxing the frame so I don't mind if I have to notch it a bit to make it fit. I may end up going that route as I already have the speed engineering headers on my Camaro. Thanks for the quick reply.

Re: Long Tube Headers (what fits?)

Either way you go, you can't lose. Whatever you end up installing, please, post a report w/pics and let us know how they fit. Thanks, and good luck!
