3 point seat belt roll bar attachment

I've seen a lot of posts regarding attachment of the seat belt shoulder strap anchor to the roll bar in a blazer, but most of them discuss drilling and welding. Has anybody found a clamp set up that will work? I came across a heavy duty pipe clamp that is rated at 749lbs on ebay.

Seems like this could be easily modified to attach the shoulder harness of a 3 point belt to a roll bar. I'm thinking it would be strong enough if it is rated at 749lbs, and would allow you to easily adjust the height if need be. Thoughts?

Re: 3 point seat belt roll bar attachment

You have to take into account the shock load that would be placed on this clamp in an accident. Fall protection anchors in industry are required to support 5000lbs (thats w a 2x safety factor), because your body weight + force on it in accident puts alot of stress on this one anchor point. But I'm no engineer, so thinking about that with some everday math tells me even a seatbelt having 3 anchor points needs be able to withstand at least1666lbs (=5K/3) of force at each point.....so no I wouldn't recommend using those.

Re: 3 point seat belt roll bar attachment

I agree with your thought process... Just seemed like a more stout option than some of the exhaust clamp options described in other posts... There has to be a better bracketed solution than drilling out and welding to the roll bar.
