Will 20 gallon sender work in 16 gallon tank.

I am going to have to buy new tanks after I shorten the frame on my K10. Can I keep the old sending unit from the 20g tank? I will need to see what shape they are in but if they are good then it would be nice to use them instead of buyng new.

Yes.
THe tanks depths are identical. The 16g is just shorter than the 20g tank

That was my perception but I wanted to make sure. Thanks.

While on the subject, would a 20 gallon sender work in a 31 gallon suburban tank??

The fill neck vent line for a 'burban tank is part of the sending unit, waaay different from truck style. Plus, rest of the tubes are facing different directions.

I see, thank you. Is there a difference in sending units for the pre 86 sending units and the 87-91? I know the tanks are different. I'm going to be using a baffled tank for my 5.3 swap.

Yes. 87+ units have an electric fuel pump on them for the TBI engines.

Tank openings are all the same, so you *could* technically put an 87+ sending unit/pump into an older tank, but it wouldn't have the baffles. Baffled would be my choice though.

Thanks for the info. after a little research it looks like I'll be buying the 4 tube sending unit for the 87-91 burbans. something like this or this. I'm replacing my fuel pump as well with a high pressure pump for my swap.

No problemo. I have an LQ4 on a stand for my truck, one of these days (years), so I've looked into what I need as well.

Re: Will 20 gallon sender work in 16 gallon tank.

I installed 16 gallon tanks when I converted my CC to a short bed and did nothing else. Everthing works just fine.

On a seperate, but maybe related note, I would like to do a Suburban tank and move my gas door to the Suburban location on my CC.
Any reason this wouldn't work?
I have a parts Suburban with all the parts.

Tired of having to move the truck if I want to fill both tanks!
