What can cause an uneven truck?
When the springs and shocks are new. I still have a one inch difference in height on the left side. Could it be the rubber cab mounts?

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Could be cab mounts either the rubber is deteriorated or rust has gotten to them. probably the most common way to make a truck sag. Measure the height to the frame on each side and go from there, also inspect your body mounts.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Ok, thanks. Are cab mounts very hard to replace?

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Ive never done it on one of these older trucks. My understanding is there are rubber bushings set up as spacers, youll have to jack the cab or bed up to replace them, if it is the metal mount coming off the frame you can either weld in new ones from a supplier or LMC sells slip on ones, still think you need to weld them if they are not too far gone. If your truck is relatively rust free it's probably the bushings. If it is the bushings, then I would replace them with some prothane ones if available they will last longer. Pretty sure summit sells the kit to do them all pretty cheap.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
very common for chevy trucks is a twisted frame due to a long hard lifespan of hard use as a truck

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Cab mounts arent too bad to replace. But my question for you is...Are you measuring ride height at fender openings or just by the cab rockers? If measuring by cab rockers, you can start with your cab mounts. But cab mounts wont cause suspension height differences at your fender wells. Even with new springs and shocks, you could have a twist in the frame a bit...not much so that you will notice driving, but 1 inch would def lead me there if measuring by fenders.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Thanks all. It is the heaight of the ground to the bumbers. I am going to check all of the mounts and spacers now. (Thx for the info on where to get them.)
I sure hope its not a twisted frame. |

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
If your measuring at the bumpers then the cab bushings wont effect it. the bumpers bolt straight to the frame.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
I just sent my 69 stepside to the frame shop because it was hit 30 years ago and the bed sagged on drivers side

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
New springs.... are they clocked right in the lower control arm? Are they specific for each side?
Do the springs match? One of the new shocks could be blown. Bent frame, bent sway bar. Bushings binding. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Sorry, didn't know you measured at the bumper. Probably not a cab mount issue then, because as stated the bumper mounts to the frame. I would measure rocker to ground and frame rail to ground to eliminate it possibly being just a skewed bumper. If the frame checks out with the same measurements on each side its a bumper mount issue. If not check the installation of new hardware as stated. Also have you had any trouble getting it aligned? Could be skewed a-arms or such. Unfortunately these trucks usually got used for trucks, and after a long hard life the frames can get sprung naturally from having loads etc, or even accidents. Hope you figure it out.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Look for a low/high spot in the frame rails. If you can find it, try placing a jackstand in the appropriate spot on the frame overnight and see what happens. You would be surprised what a little gravity can do.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
In case it has not been mentioned, shocks have no affect on ride height. The job of a shock is to control the action of the spring.
It sounds like you need to get to a frame shop and have them check for twisted or bent rails. |

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Shocks are pressurized and want to be in the extended position, if a shock is blown it won't be applying the same pressure as the other new shocks and could cause uneven height.
Shocks can also sieze and bind which would cause an uneven ride height. So no a set of good shocks won't effect ride height much a set of bad shocks can greatly effect ride height. New parts aren't always good. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
You could have one spring weaker than the other front or rear can affect it. Cheap fix.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
If you want to make sure that shocks are not the problem then take them off and see if that corrects the problem. I have never seen a shock, gas pressurized or not override the weight on a spring.

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
I will re-measure. It had the same tilt before I put new springs and shocks on so that should help narrow it down. Thanks everybody.

Since this isn't a new problem its probably the frame and not one of the new parts. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
Mine sags on the left also about an inch. Its called "chevy lean". Do a search on here and youll see tons of threads about it. One way to fix it is to add shims to the lower side or just leave it as is! (What I did)

Re: What can cause an uneven truck?
^ My S10 had the same issue. The ps was 3/4" higher than the driver side (or vice versa can't remember)
