Shortbed conversion on Gearz
Did anyone besides me catch the episode of Gearz where Stacy David chops down a 67 longbed? Man I wish I had the tools he has access to. Makes it look so easy

I saw that. Yeah, he sure makes it look easy. Guess it really is when you have access to a shop like that!

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
Don't really think it's worth it myself when there is a lot of real short rollers for sale for cheap money. Cutting the bed down takes some skill but seems like a better way to go to me.....but that's just me.

That being said, Shortening a chassis has become very popular recently. The procedure isn't that difficult. I'm confident I could pull it off, but I'd recommend against it for a novice.

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
He didn't cut the bed down on the show, you can buy both short bed sides for $1,000..... I don't know why anyone would cut down the long bed sides.

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
You can think of a thousand reasons to do it or not do it?
I'm gonna do my long bed chassis and buy short bedsides, but I also have extensive auto body & fabrication experience, but I can def see how some people can go very wrong about this without the proper skills and/or tools Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
I'm thinking of making my shortbed into a longbed. It would be nice to have his shop for 1 build. Maybe he should have a contest, the winner gets to help build his own ride with Stacey in his well equipped garage.

i enjoyed the show. It was nice that it finally had some practical content. I cut a frame a few years ago with that same method

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
Don't forget the steel floor is another $1000 plus truck freight so a repop short bed gets real expensive real fast. There are quite a few build threads in here showing how it's done, but way beyond my skill set. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
He must love these trucks. Anyone remember copperhead? Aside from the frame and cab it was a 100% aftermarket truck.
I recognize that truck, it was the cover truck for the catalog for a while.

Re: Shortbed conversion on Gearz
My wife bought me an autographed picture of Copperhead for my birthday a couple years ago. It's a cherished possession She's a keeper eh?
Hopefully Stacey will make these trucks more popular--drive up the prices for those of us that have 'em...
