My Motor and Gear Swap

Decided to make a little build thread. You guys can move it if its in the wrong forum. Wanted to do a LSX build but had this 406 around and could pass up on using in my truck for right now. Knew I was going to have to change the gearing in the truck from 3:08 to at least a 3:73. Building this for the street, not going to be racing this truck, just going for the pro touring build and look from here on out.

Parts that are on the truck-
350ci motor
700r4
Holley Street Avenger 625 Carb
HEI Ignition
Sanderson Ceramic Coated Headers
2 1/2 exhaust with 40 series Flowmasters
18x8.5 and 20x10 American Racing Torq Thrust 2 255/40/20 in the front and 295/35/20 in the rear
Lowered 4.5 in the front and 5.5 in the back
Toxic Drop Shocks
Clear brake/park and side markers with LED lights
LMC H4 Kit with DDM Tuning 6000K HID
Sony CD Player with 6x9's behind seat and 1 speaker in center dash
Bed Liner
Tinted Windows
Tach, Temp, Oil Pressure and Volts gauges with LED's
LED's in dash gauges

New parts being added-
406 Motor
Built TH350 with Holeshot 3000 Stall
Demon 750 Carb
Hydraulic Roller Cam
Morel Lifters
BG Fuel Pump
Eaton Posi Locker
3:73 Gears
TA Performance Aluminum Rearend Girdle Cover
2 14' Electric Fans
Hotchkis Front Sway Bar
Brothers 2" Drop Front Springs
Wilwood Front Calipers

First few days was getting the motor, trans and gears out.

New Morel lifters, Carb, Eaton Posi and gears

Re: My Motor and Gear Swap

Had to break out the other table for all the nice new parts! My stock gears and axles are out and new posi locker and 3:73 spool is going in this week.

Trying out new valve covers and painted manifold. Not bad!

Took the heads off the 406 and def had a blown head gasket. You can see the anti freeze in this picture.

Going to clean up the heads and get new gaskets on this weekend and put the heads back on!

Still undecided on which cam to use... Been looking at this Comp Cam.

If anyone else has any ideas I am all ears! Thanks!

Re: My Motor and Gear Swap

Not that it was a bad idea to pull the heads for an inspection but I will tell you that a cylinder that has a coolant intrusion will be clean. Antifreeze will clean any carbon deposits from the piston and cylinder head chamber. Most likely the coolant in the cylinder driped in there from removing the head.

can you see it on the head gasket? it will be obvious. The cylinder walls look good from what I can see in the photos.

Nice looking truck.

Thanks TBone. I will have to take a closer look tomorrow at the head gasket.
