Plug Wire Order

Plug Wire Order
I took the distributor and cap out of my 350 a while back, and its time to put them back together. my problem is that i cant remember where to start with the wire for the number 1 cylinder. If i have the engine at tdc, and i line the rotor up with one of the metal things in the cap, can i just go from there and install all the wires in order, or is there a cerain spot on the cap i need to start? right now, i have the #1 cylinder wire on the connection 2 clockwise of where the tac/power wire connects. i know this prolby sounds dumb, but im confused as hell. if anyone can post a pic of a correctly installed distributor, with something indicating which wire goes to cylinder #1, i would really be a happy camper. Thanx alot guys

Looking at it from the top, and clockwaise, the number one is the first one that comes after the wire adaptor plug. Kind of 4/5 O'Clock posistion.

order

As a general rule with the engine on top dead center and the rotor pointing towards the #1 cylinder I start with the terminal that lines up with the rotor button then go clockwise 18436572

Hope this helps

I dont think it really matters where you start as long as the order is right! You will just have to rotate the distributor to get the timing right.

HEI? or points, but either way if #1 is tdc on the compression stroke put #1 where the rotor points. Make sure that #1 is on compressiong and not exhaust though or you will be 180 deg out.
