Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
Time is ticking by, getting ready to hit the road. I'm retiring from 20+ years of Army service.
This is my route (Route 3) that I'll be taking. So I may need some support along the way (tools, garage/shop/couch) for all my repairs and of course to put on parts I'll probably be buying along the way. ....lol Anyhow, it'd be nice to stop and meet fellow board members along the way. Oh and I might have some extra room for a fender or so....just sayin. 40yo...soon to be jobless, Now what do I do??? Anyhow, wish me luck! Mondo Last edited by botmfedr1; 04-22-2013 at 07:12 AM. Thanks Mr. Beast.
I might be up in your area sometime. I was thinking about attending UTI, Houston campus as a side job. Mondo Posted via Mobile Device |

If you do wind up spending time in the Houston area though you will want to check out coffee and cars, pretty awesome event.

I'm presuming you are coming home? I'll raise up a beer for you when you come through Lyford/Raymondville; but you'll be so close to home there won't be any stopping!!! |

Re: Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
I'll be taking a similar route next week. I'm picking up a '76 K25 south of Seattle and driving it back to Dallas. I'm pretty familiar with most of the routes between the two, and will be making a small touring vacation of it.

Re: Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
Thanks for your service!
I would prefer route 1 myself. Ive driven from here to dfw/okc a few times. Done it even staying off the interstate for the most part, that was the best way to do it as far as the fun factor, took me 36 hours to get there though. If you are not in a hurry, I would highly suggest trying to stay off the interstate, its a much more entertaining drive, you get to see a lot of things you never would expect. Its worth the extra time it takes if you can spare it. |

BustedCrank,
I agree. And I will probably try and take the back roads. I'm in no hurry. And you run into a lot of the jewels not listed on Craigslist.. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
That's a nice trio you've got there. I doubt you'll be going through southwest Houston on your way home, but if you do, it would be nice to meet you. Maybe if you're ever up this way, we could get a few of us Houston area members together.

Re: Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
Duane,
I go to Houston too, I'm not sure if I will on my way home. My brother lives in Katy, he's involved in a huge tourism project with the city, called All Aboard Katy. Here's a link to the train he painted... http://www.katyheritagesociety.com/s...1536&imgy=1024 Posted via Mobile Device |

If you change to route 1 or 2, let me know.
Got place for you to stay and do any maintenance or repairs once you get to New Mexico. John

Re: Road trip from Steilacoom, WA to Harlingen, TX
Raton??? No way! I learned my lesson long ago!
I was driving my '58 Apache thru Raton one winter coming from Ft Carson. It was complete white out...couldn't tell the road from the fields, except for the barbed wire fences. I got pulled over by State police outside Raton. For an intermittent headlight. I told him I wouldn't be that way, and if I could just pay the ticket by mail. " Nope", he says...gotta go to court...." That was back in '95... I was like 23,4 years old. And I ain't ever paid it! I wrote a letter to the magistrate of NM...but sadly I never mailed it. I think I still have that letter. I think I'll mail it and just blame it on the post office...lol Mondo Posted via Mobile Device |
