Rear Differential housing
Is it true that the 70-72 1/2 ton rear differential housings are the same, wider than the previous years. I have a 68 that I converted to 5 lug with 72 axles and have the problem that they are too long for the drums. I installed 3" van drums so that the shoes would engage the drum, but now I want to make it correct. I need a correct length housing.

Re: Rear Differential housing
yes, mid year 70 to end of 72 were wider than the 67 to mid year 70. A good axle shop should be able to cut yours to the proper length and cut the correct depth splines on it. otherwise, you'll need to either get new axles, or a new rear end housing.

Re: Rear Differential housing
My local differential parts house in Dallas is getting me the 30.5" 5 lug axles for under $150 each as opposed to the ones Moser sells for $260 each, probably the same axle.

Re: Rear Differential housing
I paid a little shy of $300 for Mosers, seals, bearings, and shipping .. the best I can recall. I know they weren't $260 per axle. Buck got the later axles, shipped for $157 for the pair. The earlier ones are just a bit harder to find.
I'd make sure your guy is not charging you $150ea for them.. just sayin. http://www.moserengineering.com/axle...spline-31.html Notice at the lower section of the screen it shows (1-pair)

Re: Rear Differential housing
Oh, I didn't read the Moser listing very well, I didn't see that the $260 was for a pair. Thanks.....
