Help Indentifying a Transmission

Ok... I have searched and searched and cannot find what this thing is. I am hoping someone has some insight.

It is a 3 speed manual that looks to have a factory overdrive. I know that is not the stock transmission. On the driver side there are these numbers:

GM
10
3743368
B108

On the passenger side there is this number

RIOH-8

Here is a pic. I can climb under and try and take better ones if needed. Thanks in advance for any help!

Re: Help Indentifying a Transmission

At first looks, due to the drainplug on the trans it looks like a muncie 3 sp w/overdrive. Can you count the number of bolts on the side plate? If 4 its a muncie mc318 w/overdrive, if 7 bolts its the saginaw. 1st 2 pics are of a muncie (borrowed from a member) and the 2nds pics are of a saginaw

At first look you look to be exactly right! Thanks so much!

I was Googling something fierce but just couldn't track it down.

Re: Help Indentifying a Transmission

no problem. its a nonsynchronized 3sp w/overdrive. if you want a synchronized 1st gear on a 3 speed, the saginaw would be the choice. if you dont mind it, the muncie is a good trans, and its the only trans ives ever run in these trucks. i do have a borg t-16 for the big block im dropping in.

Re: Help Indentifying a Transmission

I'm planning on putting the later 7 bolt 3spdOD in my 65 that has a regular 3spd. I see in these pics the shift levers are farther apart on the later syncro 2st trans. Will my stock linkage work? Other threads have varying info.

Re: Help Indentifying a Transmission

I don't mind the non syncro. Just takes some getting used to.

I am finding that parts for this thing aren't easy to come by anymore. I know they make the seal "kits" for the transmission but it looks as if nothing is really available for the OD. No hard parts for either...

After some more research it looks like the OD is a Borg-Warner R10. I gathered that from the R10H-8 stamp. That sound right?

Now I have to contemplate refreshing this guy or finding something new to put in as I would be worried about putting money into with no chance of repair in the future...

Re: Help Indentifying a Transmission

Im not sure personally. I am familiar with the standard muncie mc318, but haven't had any experience w/the OD version. I will find the link that I found the pics on and maybe that member can help with some answers as they did the install/repairs to the transmissions. I was just trying to help you identify it as I recognized it and had some pics archived.

As for the question on the linkage, Im not sure on that either. Maybe the same member can help there too. I do know that the saginaw linkage points are further apart. The borg warner t-16 I have was the m-13 optional 3 speed HD trans placed behind big blocks in camaro/chevelle applications and also has wider shift points. I plan to try and work out the column shift to work....will take so time to get the rods correct. I think the saginaw/borg look about the same, as I have looked at both together recently, so if the answer can be worked out, it should work for both apps.
