LOl, yeah the bumper was bolted on and all the air in the bags was let out.
We lowered the front bumper about 3/8" because I didnt like how high it sat above the apron. If I lose a bag and have a flat tire, I am up the creek for sure as my crossmember is almost on the ground (1/4").
Once i can purchase and install the 71' C-10 crossmember from Porterbuilt customs I can better manage the height and the ride quality as I beleive it is lowered 2" from stock and I can raise my bags which will allow me to be as low but better travel in A arms with out the worries of hitting the ground.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Here is what I was able to do today with permission, I cleaned up my old headlight retainer rings, and headlights. It was a pain to clean off all the primer and 15 yrs of dirt & grime from sitting around. They came out pretty nice, almost look brand new. It cleaned and painted the headlight buckets a few weeks ago, then re installed all new adjusters on them. Now I just hope they will work and are not blown.

Now on my way outside so we can sand down the bed wood one last time. Woo Hoo

Hp1957:
Thank you

DaninPasadena:
I will do that next time he brings it by.

I finished front and rear wiring and started the install of the (rattle trap) sound deadener. Yesterday I installed the headlights and sprayed the inside of the doors with undercoating. Hope to get her home this weekend.

Sure, next time I see him.

So far I have managed to get all the air lines hooked up, clamped, plugged in, and the tank mounted and hooked up. I ran a shrader valve into the cab so I can air up the tank if I lose a battery or a compressor. I am using manual paddle type valves for this very reason. I installed my front shocks as they arrived on thursday.
I finished the rear wiring to the lights and fuel tank, and mounted the tail gate. I noticed that the aftermarket tailgate trunions have no slot cut into them so I slotted them via my mill so that I could get the tailgate flush with the bed.
I finally found the factory assembly drawing for the deluxe cab trim holes and clip position from a very nice member on stovebolt. Now I have to modify the clips to make them work properly but hey thats what i get for using aftermarket, although I dont have much of a choice i guess. Hoping to get the truck home tomorrow as it has been along time since she was here.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Since my last post here is what I have done;
I wet sanded the bed, also buffed & polished it.
I have finally installed the rear bumper, rear trim rings and lenses.
Almost finished up the sound deadener, and wiring.
Ordered my new original style moulding clips from the Filling Station should be here today or tomorrow so I can get going on that.
Now to pick a carpet and start installing the glass and door handles and such.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Ok so TODAY my windshield was finally installed. Apparently the glass company I used had to check 10 windshields due to a blemish caused during shipping from overseas.
If you ever use safelite in so cali ask for a guy named "Rafael'' he really knows his stuff installing the task force glass. My new windshield looks beautiful in the truck.
So far I have installed the hubcaps, ashed and waxed the entire truck, mounted my door mirrors, cut, i stalled and adjusted the right side vent & cable.
Been working on a fan shroud for my new electric fan that should be here this week, ordered my carpet and hope it is here by this weekend.

WooHoo almost done

I am not sure if I like the hubcaps & wheel combo so I might be looking for some nice alloy wheels soon, Budniks maybe?

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Lol, yeah they are expensive. I am looking for some wheels that look similar to the ones I like although no luck yet.

I have installed the bed emblems, rear view mirror, throttle assembly, aligned and installed alternator and belt, power steering pump and hoses, fabricated the fan shroud now just waiting on the fan to show up. Carpet should be here Tuesday. I am hoping to pick up a rear glass and few small things I need later today.

OK, moneybags here to post the latest updates to my build as promised.
This pic is of the radiator that I installed my new electric fan and fabricated fan shroud onto

this is the nutsert I installed on top and bottom of the radiator to be able to bolt the fan shroud to it. I used 5/16'' std threads with stainless steel button head bolts.

this is the fan and shroud bolted up to the radiator.

and here it is installed in the truck

hope fully have this beast driveable by the upcoming weekend

This is a carb racket I fabricated for the throttle and tranny cables, I am going to have it chromed sometime in the future but for now it looks great rattle canned gloss black.

Re: My 1958 Fleetside project

Ok here are a couple pics of the stance of it. Not TOO BADD of a stance with a 1971 C-10 front grafted clip. later on in the future I want a Porterbuilt drop member for it.
These are wheels I originally bought for it but am having mixed feelings for them. Wife says she loves them although wants to know when I am starting her 55.2 suburban (LOL)

it sits quite low when the air is out.

I really really hope that it fires right up this week after I finish the wiring. Carpet kit should be here on tuesday, installing the back glass hopefully this wednesday.

Thank you all for the kind words.
Since my last update I have finished the sound deadener, installed both door glass, door panels etc. mocked up the carpet for cutting, installed new braided tranny lines and cooler, custom made chain covers for the tail gate, wired and installed the instrument panel.
