ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
i recently put the 4.5/6 drop from ECE on my 67. i did tierod ends while i was in there. i took the truck to an alignment shop and the guy said that the spindles wont work. he said that it bends the flexible brake hoses too much and that the turning radius isnt enough. seems to me the hoses are fine and it will turn lock to lock. has anybody had this problem before? he said the CPP spindles are are the worst of them all. supposedly this guy is the 67-72 truck guy in town. im going to find someone else to look at it, just wondering if anyone has heard this before.

That's crazy.
That guy doesn't know what he is talking about. You you have any pics of your suspension?

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I'll try to get some pics. Thanks for the replys. I'll find someone else. I guess I was just ticked off because I did a 4 day marathon build on my truck and after all that hard work this guy tells me I have to take my new spindles off

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I've got ECE spindles on my '71 2wd blazer.
No issues what so ever.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I did the same thing and my friend who is the best mechanic I've ever known brought up some issues to me. He showed me how at a full turn the brake line can rub/stretch if they aren't in the correct position. We spent some time getting the banjo bolts to aim just the right way to minimize that chance of rubbing.
But other than that everything was cool. Maybe this is what your guy is seeing. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I have 2.5" ECE spindles on my 69' C-10, no brake line issues and it drives straighter than my new pickup... They are a great part.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I'd spend your money somewhere else... ECE products are what I run and will purchase in the future.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
ECE buys spindles from Western, at least they did. Don't know if they will continue with Western since new owner bought Western and moved it to SoCal

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
thanks for all the reply's. i had heard a ton of good things about ECE before purchasing them. they appear to be pretty much the same castings as the 71' spindles only the hub shaft is 2.5" higher. im sure there are more differences than that but nothing drastic. i think i would do something about the brake lines before taking the spindles back off anyway. different mounts or longer brakelines.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
My vote also goes with ECE. I have them on my truck without any issues.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
I've opened CPP spindle boxes and found Western brand spindles inside. I also had Stan at ECE tell me he was out of "his" spindles but he could sell me a pair of his spindles with "Western" cast into them. They definitely all buy from the same place.
Problem is CPP customer service sucks horribly while ECE is stellar. That why I only order CPP stuff from a Summit so I know when it's in stock and will be shipped. Otherwise its ECE for me. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
That's funny because when I had a problem with my cpp order being delayed, Jeff from cpp went out of his way to follow up and call me back and then later email me and make sure I was happy. Customer service doesn't get any better than that. If you have problems call and and ask for Jeff and tell him U are a forum member here.

Re: ECE 2.5 drop spindle question
If you go to the review section of is board you'll see many posts from other members very dissatisfied with CPP. Then pay close attention to the build threads on here. There are many, many examples of folks buying from CPP and having issues with delivery times, missing or wrong parts, and more.
I'm very demanding of quality products and good service. I put price way down the list below those two considerations. If a company delivers quality products and service, I'm about the best cheerleader in the world. If they don't deliver that, I get loud mouth. |
