C10 Receiver Hitches

Lets see 'em.

Looking to pick up a receiver hitch for my shortbed. Not necessarily looking for a hidden hitch (ECE), a "standard" receiver is fine. Looking at the Curt 13028, but haven't seen one mounted on a square with a sport bumper. Looking for a receiver that doesn't hand down too low, but doesn't tuck up high enough where I have to run a flip plate.

Re: C10 Receiver Hitches

If your hitch is below the license plate it's gona be pretty low.
Why don't you want the flip plate? Mine is from a Camaro (82-92) was like $5.
My hitch came from a 91 Suburban also from pic-a-part. $20
Put the hitch almost center of license plate box.

Re: C10 Receiver Hitches

I was pretty tired when I typed all that. I should clarify:

It’s not that I “don’t” want a hidden hitch/flip plate, insomuch as I don’t mind if the receiver tube pokes out below the plate, so long as it’s not drastically lower than the bottom of the plate. Clearance is not an issue.

Really, I’m just looking for a hitch that works with a sport bumper. If it tucks up behind the plate, fine. If not, I’d like to see how far down it hangs.

Got any pics of how you matched that Sub receiver to a pickup?

Re: C10 Receiver Hitches

This is not going to help you much. I picked mine up on craigslist and the company is out of business but based on how recessed it is with my step bumper I always wondered if it was meant for a sport bumper.

Curt Mfg picked up a lot of Putnam's old stock, they may be supporting/producing them now.

To the OP, sorry I can't help, I had a Reese on mine but it won't fit with my OEM step bumper so I am in the market for a hitch as well.

My 82 has a sport bumper and hitch, but it is dark out now and my camera (cell phone) doesnt have a flash on it. I will take a photo tomorrow for you.

I will be doing the swap on the bumper and hitch to my 86 next weekend. yay

Wrapail: I am wanting to tuck my hitch up behind the bumper so it is out of sight, I will be looking for the flip license plate to do this as you have described. My only concern is that even tho i will probably not use it, EVER, can i still keep my OEM spare in the OEM hole under the bed with a hitch similar to what you have done?

can you please post some photos? we have 4 burbs at work i will crawl under them tomorrow to check the difference between these and my 82. curious now.

My receiver is also a craigslist find, it fits the sport bumper perfectly. I'll look it over for markings of any kind

My hitch setup you could use the factory spare tire mounting under the truck no problem.
I will try and get a couple photos

Thanks Wraprail!

I just crawled under my 82 and there are no markings on the hitch noting a model number or anything... well there are stickers but they are all old and not readable. the drawtite label is barely readable.. Sorry

Re: C10 Receiver Hitches

This is my hitch. It just slides between the frame rails in front of ( or behind depending on how you look at it) the rear crossmember and welded to end of frame.
Came off Suburban.

So does it sneak up behind the license plate 100% out of view? I LIKE IT!

Re: C10 Receiver Hitches

Yes 100 percent hidden. This is with the plate down. Used a 3" hole saw for the hole in license plate box.

As you can see in the first photo above I cut the brackets off the suburban hitch and weld in.
Posted via Mobile Device

Also my bumper is sucked up tight to the sheetmetal so if your bumper is mounted in the factory holes you would have a larger gap between hitch and bumper than I have.
Also causes a problem with the inner bumper brackets.

Sorry, no markings of any kind. There's a bleached label on it, no legible writing on it. It doesn't look like any of the currently available hitches on the market for a C10, so it's likely one of the dozens of discontinued models. Not surprising considering the last one of our trucks was built over 25 years ago.
