Need help with 58 clutch linkage
It's been awhile since I took this apart, and even then i think the previous owner had it right. Does anyone have a diagram of the original 1958 Apache V8 / 3spd clutch linkage setup? Also need to know where the clutch spring attaches.

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
I feel your pain. When I got my truck it had only part of the linkage and it was installed backward. The clutch would work but not good. I finally found this pic and saw how it was supposed to work. I'm not sure where the spring is supposed to hook but I bolted a bracket to a threaded boss on the side of my engine and hooked the spring to it.

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
Nordic, your pic appears to be on the passenger side of the frame (body mount is on back side). Is it out of the right hand drive section of the FAM?

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
Where is the best place to hook the spring to? It says engine assembly. That's a long stretch, what's the length of the spring extension? Anyone know where to get that extension?

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
I doesn't take much tension on the spring., just enough to keep the throw out bearing from contacting the clutch when engaged. anymore just adds to pedal being stiff.

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
I used a piece of 1/8th thick flat bar, one inch wide and about two inches long. I drilled a hole in each end, bolted one end to a threaded boss on the side of my 350 engine and hooked the spring in the other end. It looked right and the spring is at the correct angle. As mentioned, you don't want too much tension on it, just enough to keep the clutch pedal at the top. I don't know where the spring would have attached originally.

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
It looks like the spring is angled down a bit in the diagram. I hooked mine up temporarily and the brake linkage hits the clutch spring. My truck has the 283 V8

Re: Need help with 58 clutch linkage
I ran into the same issue when I went from an L6 to V8. I took a small piece of metal stock, bent it at a 90Deg angle, drilled two wholes and attached it to one of the bolts on the lower part of steering box. I liked attaching it there, the angle seemes right and I did not have to stretch the return spring too much. I'll shoot a pic and post it later.
