rearend delimma

Hey guys I have a 68 short bed fleet and I have already bought a 5 lug rear axle kit from cpp still in the box but I came across a 1972 12 bolt posi with 3:73 gears that Im thinking about buying, my ? is how much wider is a 71-72 rear end and in ya'lls opinion is the 12 bolt from the 72 worth buying since I already have the 5 lug axel kit.

"...how much wider is a 71-72 rear end..."

1.5", iirc (0.75" per side). Personally, I'd go with the 71-72 posi with 3.73 and sell the conversion axles. The con. axles could even help you sell the 1968 rear.

Re: rearend delimma

Did you already buy custom wheels? Use the newer rear that's wider. Looking back. I would keep six lug and use a rear from new truck. Wider. And more options on wheels. But I have a 5 lug I picked up from a caprice that was wider than my 68
