LS swap question oil pan.

I've done the swap on the obs truck and had to change the oil pan to a fbody pan do to the truck being dropped 4/6. My question is my 85 is dropped 4/6 also and Im fixing to do the swap on it so i need to know if the truck LS pan will work or does it hang down to low to be safe with my drop?

Im running 5/7 front belltech 3" spindles 2" spring with a mchogneys flip kit snd drop shackles set at 2" in the back th stock truck pan hangs 2" bellow the x-member but i have tons of ground clearence

I would switch to an F body or CTV pan just in case

you'll be fine with a 4/6 drop....unless you drive over rocks?

Ok i have a few saying yes and some saying no... Ive seen 1 picture that has a good shot of the pan and it does hang below so i guess i will find a fbody pan.. Better safe then sorry seeing i live in Houston.. The roads suck!!

I would think if the pan don't hang below the A arm pivot. It would be fine

I went with the CTS-V pan, just because I didn't ike the lowest point being made of cast aluminum.

I will try to remember to get one when I get home. It is still on the stand.....

If I was buying one, I would try to find a used 98-02 F body pan. My CTS-V pan was free, so that kind of dictated my chouice. You still have to get the corresponding dipstick, dipstick tube, oil pump pickup and windage tray no matter which way you go.

Yeah i have most of the part numbers for the fbody stuff cuz i had to go that route with my 96 truck swap.. The pans are not easy to find used i looked for 2 weeks on my last one but holley makes a swap pan but the kit is $$$$...

Buying everything new is probably close to the price of the Holley pan. The GMPP swap pan is similar to the truck pan, but the sump is about 1-1 1/2 higher than the truck pan. It comes with everything, and is about $150 list. If you aren't going to be terribly low, it isn't a bad choice.

Holley makes a swap pan for the muscle cars it might work for the trucks too.

I will be around 4inch drop in the front so pan to ground clearance is a big deal. Houston roads suck bad and they like to add speed bumps in the freeway

The holley pan is the same as the fbody pan just a little cleaner looking but for the price of the kit i would buy a aftermarket pan..

Not quite. The Holley pan drop section is shorter front to back, but it's only as deep as the F-body pan. If the crossmember allows the longer drop section without having to push the engine back into the firewall or lifted above the crossmember, I'd use the F-body pan.

Just weld a thick washer to the bottom of the motor mount and raise it. I had enough room at the firewall and floor when I did mine.

I used a LSA (CTS-V) oil pan on my son's '82 with a raised crossmember. I does not hang below the crossmember at all. It's sump does not extend as far forward as the F-Body pan. JEGS sold a kit at one time with everything you needed for less then $150. I found mine on ebay before I knew about jegs.
