63 c20 6.2????

hi guys i have a 63 C20 long fleetside looking to put front disc and maybe 6.2 turbo i have a 82 2500 GMC with 6.2 i am thinking (that might be a bad thing lol)of taking the front cross member complete and power steer gear and use hydro boost THATS the front now i want to stay with the 4 speed muncie (granny) so i can get some kind of freeway speed out of it i am leaning to changing out the rear end .......the donor truck has auto trans ...cant find build sheet ....i dont think it is 700r4 also dont know ratio yet of rear any one here done any like this? looking for ideas THANKS Richard

Just change the spindles/upper and lower a-arms, steering linkage, pwr steering and then put the 6.2 in there. I am not sure the 4 speed will bolt up though.

I'd swap in the '82 trans and rear end too- might as well keep the matched set. Won't really take much fab and you have a complete parts truck to use. Just my opinion.

Good luck and sounds cool no matter which way you go.

Doesn't that 4-speed still have just a 1:1 inout/output ratio in 4th gear? If so, won't help much with higher speeds on freeway--rpm's will be high at freeway speeds when using a numerically high diff'l ratio.

Use your 82 as a donor, if it's in good shape chassis wise. Take everything you need off of it.

yes the trans is 1to1 in 4th.... looking to put in rear with 3.73 or better yet 3.42 i am staying with man. trans.... Bolt up of trans should not be a problem after all its a chevrolet NOT a F%*D (nasty four letter word)

Clyde why not use the whole crossmember so i dont have to pull it all apart?

donor truck has TH400 trans and 4:10 rear gear ...so i have other rears with 3:73 atleast ...havent looked yet what are thoughs on changing to the rear leaf springs out of 82?

I think you should put in 3.42 if you have them. That set up with the 6.2 should yield you around 18-22 MPG.

if i can find one that is what i want to use is a 3:42 ....i cant belive the 82 has th400 with 4:10 from factory

Its just easier to put in what you need and not do the whole cross member ( this is only my opinion). and you can put new parts in while you do it, tie rods, bushings etc.
