75 K20 First Truck

Hello All, figured out how to post pics so here goes, my dad bought this truck 7 years ago with a load of scrap in the back for $300 no title. The guy said he had the title but we never got it from him. His wife threw a crowbar through the windshield because she did not want to walk by it anymore! So, he sold it. I drove the truck once, at only 8 years old. The timing was off then, but it would still run. Then we brought it home from our business' garage, and it has been parked where you see it since. It is in fantastic shape for its age as the body goes. The frame is the same way. minor rust only. So, it has been sitting for 7 years with no carb or intake on the engine. Hopefully I can get it to run in the near future... It has the 350/350/208 drivetrain. My plans are to change it to a 79 GMC Sierra Grande, with a 73-74 Chevy grille. (GMC badge), cowl ind hood (steel), 6in lift, 35 12.50 BFG Mud terrains, outlaw II rims, P Pump 12V Cummins, NV4500 OR a mild-hot 350 4 bolt, 4spd conversion, dana 60 front, 14 bolt full floater rear, 205 t-case, arrival blue paint. for fun stuff I want to put train horns under the box behind the cab on the drivers side. (no fuel tank) I am starting to acquire parts for it, only the small stuff. we have tons of axles, and other parts. my dad has parts from enough trucks to make a "75" GMC. complete 1 ton chassis, cab, box, etc. Well, I think I have bored you enough so here they are. The lifted truck is what I want it to look like when i'm done. it is very close to what I want..

That one is pretty rough, good to see someone wanting to bring it back to life. Good luck I know it will turn out really nice.

I dont think its pretty rough, the inside maybe.... The box has 4 spots where rust has come through. the rockers and cab corners are just starting to bubble! fenders are new!

Re: 75 K20 First Truck

I have seen quite a few threads starting with much worse! Not to mention if you are going to do this build correctly, it's way better (in my opinion) than hacking everything up and hick-building everything together. I can't even tell you how many "builds" I have read through on here that make me sick! I wish you the best of luck and hope you get her back on the road.

By the way, any reason you want to make a 1 ton? My K25 with HD suspension rides like a dump truck....it's not very fun.

Haha thanks, I see what you mean, the chassis is for the 75 GMC my dad wants to build. this will be a 3/4, but with 35 badges. i basically stole them and i cant find the ones i really want, so the grande 35's were close enough.

Did not mean any offense, I am just used to seeing Texas trucks with much less rust. Belive me, mine was in worst shape when i started. Hard to see in these pictures, but both tops of the bed rails are completely rusted through, both front fenders and hood had rust.

My Start

My Finish

Its okay, but you have to understand where/when this truck spent its life. Northern NY during the 70s=Heavy Salt! every truck up here is pretty much rotted out in 7 years. finding these old trucks in ok shape is getting harder and harder as days go by. But, I still don't see "that much rust" on it? on the tailgate and the hood but even then? I don't understand what you mean... Anyways, that's a beautiful truck!!!!!

Did the famous crowbar come with it? seems like that would be fair.

That truck is what we call "Rust Free" in the twin tiers area of NY/PA......

But seriously that is a very solid looking truck

yeah, especially with the amount of salt we have on this side of the state. I am about 1.5 miles from the VT border.

Yeah, thats the one. After i posted I was thinking that 208 didnt sound right.. That isn't a hole. It's half a nut from a squirrel or something that was in there, there are quite a few actually..
