Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
While replacing my dash pad, original by the way, this weekend I found the orange piece of paper under the dash pad, and found the white piece barely hanging on to the top of my gauge cluster. Even though they don't mean much to the truck I think they're awesome for the simple fact that these original pieces held on for 42 years...

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
Davidson was one of the manufacturers of dash pads and the 9/17/70 date would make me think it is from your 71.
The AC cluster tag with the part number is intersting in that it s a good example of the build sheet numbering system. Here is a clip from a 72 sheet showing the last four of the P/N but often the three letter quick identifier (QBB in this case) was used. Would love to have scans of both of those for my collection if you would.

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
Yes those came from my '71, the coolest part about finding them for me is it that I now know when my truck was actually built. The factory sticker on the driver's door is long gone that has the build date on it. Unfortunately I don't have any way to scan those onto the computer, just pictures.

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
Being vendor parts they only tell you that your truck was built after 9/18/70. Production lead time involved there. However when is kind of up in the air. Do you have the original block (with the build stamp) or a protect o plate for yor truck? If not I might be able to generalize it from your VIN if you want to PM it. No worries on a scanner if you had one great as never give up the opportunity for primary documentation.

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
The block is stamped with the engine plant, build day/month along with the application suffix. This is found on the right front of the block at the head stamped into the deck face. It does not however give the year, for that you would need to fnd the casting date as well. Again the engine is a lead part also built off line and shipped to the plant for dressing and installation. So you will have the engine build date which will be much closer than a trim part but still not the actual vehicle build date.

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
Well I'm about 99% sure my '71 still has the original engine. I was told when I bought it that it had the 307, which was not hard to believe due to the original appearance of it, and how it is grossly underpowered. But the numbers I got off the block are V0127THA off the front, and 3970020 off the rear. From what I found...
V0127THA: V = Flint, MI 01 = January 27 = 27th day THA = 1971, 307, 2 barrel, 200hp, m/t 3970020: 1969-73, 307, 115-200hp, 2 barrel, car/truck So this would indicate that the truck was actually built sometime after January 27th, 1971. Only 4 months after the date under the dash pad

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
Very good now you are understanding. Depending on the plant you are probably looking at a 3 to 30 day range. Next test what is your rear axle build code if original?
If you find it the block casting date would be a nice too.

Re: Anyone ever found these papers in their dash?
It is a fremont truck. The rear axle has the correct factory gear ratio, but I'm unsure of the originality. Where is the build code located?
