My daughter just got her first Chevy
My daughter just got her permit and when asked what kind of vehicle she wanted, she told me she wanted a 67-72 short bed 4x4. Now we have always had old trucks and cars, but I never figured she would want one for daily transportation while in high school. I explained to her that what ever we found, she and her brother would have to restore it while she drove it, cause we didn't have the money to buy one already done. She said she always enjoyed helping her brother work on his truck, and she actually looked forward to working on her own and learning more about them. So, after several that were either too expensive or modified, we found this one about a hundred miles from home. It's a 6 cylinder with a granny 4 speed, but it has the most solid steel floor bed I have seen in years. So while other girls are busy going to the mall, she's now making small projects that she can get done each weekend. Here's a few pictures of the starting point.

That's a great story my friend, and lets me think maybe there is hope for this new generation. Maybe all the kids aren't wasting thier time at the malls and video games!
Hey... where were these girls when I was 16! |

Re: My daughter just got her first Chevy
Man that is great! I also love the look of the '68's and I am so proud of her for "manning up" to a manual shift and 6 cylinder. 250 6 cylinder right? 4:11?
My '72 is a 6 cylinder with 3 speed manual on the column, 4:11 rear end. If she bought what I have, NO WORRIES OF A HIGH SPEED CRASH as the tranny won't let her go that fast! :-) Keep us posted and hit us with all the pics you can! |

Awesome. You are fortunate to have a daughter that wants an old truck and is willing to work on it. This is always a reflection of the parents involvement. Good job.

Re: My daughter just got her first Chevy
She was pretty adamant about wanting a stick shift too. I just lucked into an NOS tailgate on ebay for the price of a Chinese repop one, so she was geeking out over that. I think after the tune up, tank flush and brake check, the first real project will be to take the bed off and get it blasted and primed, and while it's off she can wire wheel the frame and get it POR'd. Nothing like jumping in with both feet.

That is great. It is nice to see the younger generation involved in the classics, let alone a girl. You must be proud. I have 5 grown daughters and not one of them would pick up a wrench.

Re: My daughter just got her first Chevy
Manual shifts are just FUN to drive! I sometimes play with the idea of converting my truck over to a 4 speed in the floor but I'd miss the old column shift.

Re: My daughter just got her first Chevy
I married one 23 years ago. Still am! My oldest daughter wanted a 69 like my first truck. Then settled on 87 T-top IROC. It is really cool seeing her drive home with AC/DC or ZZ Top blarring. Awesome kids make for beautiful memories.
Cherish it my friend.
