Unhappy Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Hi guys,

While cleaning up the mess I made during disassembly, I somehow managed to throw away all four of the concave washers that go on the control arm mounting studs between the frame and the upper control arms. The washers are flat on one side and concave on the other side. I've checked Napa and O'Reilly in town with no luck. LMC does not seem to have this part either, although it's difficult to tell from their diagram. Does anybody have any idea where I might be able to find these washers?

Thanks in advance for any help!

-Will

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

I was not able to locate them when I misplace mine last year. I wound up getting a set at my local pick a part. These are on my list to get an extra set. You might PM Cheyenne Shortstep, he might have some.

Post a WTB ad on the parts board. Someone will surely have some.

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Lee H - I was thinking I might be able to find them there. They usually have a C10 sitting around. I was hoping not to have to go through all that trouble but I will definitely check them out.
leddzepp - That was my next step. Most people seem to sell frames complete or at least the front cross-member complete. Hopefully somebody will have some laying around!
Koffer - You wouldn't happen to know the LMC part number? I've looked on their diagram, but I'm having trouble identifying exactly which part it is.

Thanks for the help!

page 142 in the LMC catalog online has a nice shot of what you need shown as part # 10 in the diagram part # 30-2905

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Thanks Koffer,

I just ordered the parts. I wasn't sure if that was the correct part because it looks like a rectangular spacer on the parts diagram. I'll keep you updated when the parts arrive.

Thanks again for the help

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Just to give everybody a heads up, the part I ordered is not the correct part (#10, page 142 LMC catalog). The part described above looks the same as it does in the catalog (as it should!). It is not the round concave washer, but rather a rectangular washer/spacer that is flat on both sides. Still in search of the concave washers, looks like I'll be making a trip to u-pull this weekend!

Thanks for all the help!

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

sorry , sounds like you need to talk to LMC and ask WTF ?? But it is LMC .In the pix they do look convex which would fit into the concave part on the upper control arm shaft .

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

I went through this several years ago, and did the same thing trying to order through lmc. At that time my dad was still working in the garage at Amren After lisening to me complain for months he ended up making me some. Not sure what material he used but they have never rusted and are chrom/ polished. Funny thing is i actually lost them for a few weeks. I eventually found some off the old ones im pretty sure they are just hanging in my garage i will check today and if i find them would be willing to send them to u, just pay shipping if i find them i will let u no, oldno7

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Koffer - haha I guess I should've known something was gonna go wrong considering it's LMC... Hopefully people needing these in the future finds this thread and doesn't make the same mistake I did!

Oldno7 - You are a life saver! It's people like you that make this a great community to be a part of, thank you very much. I will send you a PM and hopefully we can get something figured out. I will gladly pay for the parts as well, just happy I found some

I got mine on Ebay search spherical washers and you will be overwhelmed with how many. You will need to measure the size of one or I believe I found the size somewhere on internet can't remember.

Man, I never would have thought to search for "spherical washers". I looked everywhere to track down some "concave washers", which apparently, doesn't seem to exist.

Thanks for posting this, I think it will solve the frustrations of many people in the future. My only concern would be the slope of the concave section. If the washer is too deep, only outside edge would be in contact which is far from ideal.

LOL, that's because the one's you needed are "convex" and not concave

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Glad oldno7 got you taken care of.

The lost concave washer issue is pretty common. It would be nice if someone reproduced them. The concave washer is loose on the stud, and commonly misplaced in the garage. I like to hide things from myself so I dont lose them. the convex side should not come off unless you knock the studs out of the crossmember.

Re: Where to buy concave washers/shims on upper control arm???

Any chance somebody can measure the OD, ID and thickness of the concave washer? I seem to have lost mine as well. Common problem, maybe we can come up with a part number for replacements.
