Local truck for sale

Am i missing something about this truck? It needs work and not to bash it but i think asking price seems to much. Was told 18,500 and might take 16,500. Maybe i'm wrong???

That's what I would ask... If my wife said SELL IT and I really didn't want to...

On another note, if someone turns this thread into a bash fest it will be locked I bet... Just sayin'.

I dont see how. Even if you paint it yourself I dont see a total restoration for $8-10K.

Especially buy a truck, then restore it for that money? Not happening.

Happens every day. I have built four nice trucks since 2004 and I am working on my fifth one. Less than 10k in each one, two of them considerably less, and I have the receipts to prove it.... Quite a few of the guys on the board have done it.

Re: Local truck for sale

There are a couple trucks for sale locally where I am too that they want about 5k more than what they are worth. A lot of people seem to think they have a gold mine with these trucks, they are desirable but within reason.

I'm new to this game but I agree, that's too much for that truck. The chipping paint alone would keep me away.

(That and I hate bucket seats! ALL cars should have a bench seat option).

I figure the seller must think quite highly of that truck to be asking over $15k. I figure he thinks so highly of it he'll be keeping it

Any parts I buy I get from a local parts supplier, Arts Classic Truck Parts (60 miles). I don't buy a lot of new stuff, I repair almost everything. If I have an inner panel that has rust I cut it out and weld in new metal, same with core supports, etc. and I do all of my own work. I do not add any bling because I don't think it adds anything to the truck except cost.

Here is my secret... I only deal in abandoned project trucks. You can buy them for pennies on the dollar and if you do your homework and know what you are looking at you can buy them with all of the hard work and high dollar stuff done.

Here is one example in this link:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=578866

I am working on the Blue truck now. I will have around 6k in this truck when it is finished....

Another example:

The most I have ever had in a truck when it was finished is 9k and that was the Red & White truck pictured below. I sold it for $16,500 so you know it was a pretty nice truck. To keep this on topic, compare it to the truck in the first post in this thread...

Re: Local truck for sale

But how much did you have in the Harley? Surely it wasn't free and has to be considered in the price of the truck. Do you rebuild the engine, trans, etc? To be "restored", those things need to be done. Otherwise its a nicely repaired truck with a used drivetrain. Nothing wrong with that at all but shouldnt be considered "restored" unless those things have been addressed. Thats just my opinion though. The red and white truck looks great.

Re: Local truck for sale

Not to highjack but i agree with lockdoc, i have done it too many times including the vehicle cost. I have a few of them on my profile page in the albums, not a one had over 4 thousand invested and all were sold around the 10 grand range, all were frame off restorations

Re: Local truck for sale

Saying "I built one" for a certain price is a pretty broad statement. There are all kinds of builds ranging from the " get it running and buff it" to the frame off total rebuild.

I thought I could "build one" for 10K when I started but I found out that the picture I had in my mind of the finished truck was Quite a bit more expensive than the budget I had laid out. Mine is a frame off, ground up-every nut bolt and screw type thing----Id give my left &%$ to do it for $5K (or even 8K).

I had $4250 in the Harley and it was way above average for a 2004 model. That figure is included in the total I will have invested in the Blue truck when finished. I totaled up the receipts the guy gave me with the Blue truck and he had over $8000 invested in new parts and work he had done, not including what he paid for the truck or the body work and paint. He was in WAY over his head... That's the problem with having to hire everything done.

New or rebuilt engines in everything I do (they usually come with the vehicle), new brakes, trans's professionally tested and checked. I don't skimp on anything..

As far as I'm concerned "restored" means 100 point nut & bolt restoration, everything else is "rebuilt".

Is this a private party, or a dealer? If it's a dealer then thay might explain the price. I also don't think a bottle of coolant in the engine compartment is a real good idea for making a sale.

Individual owns the truck. Now he says 18,000 no less because the cst trucks are rare. It don't have a gas tank in it either as they have a gas jug under the hood because the tank was so rusted. I looked at it very close and told him his asking price was way off. He told me that someone will give that.

I think you are on to it.

Wife: Sell that dang truck before it puts us in the poor house.

Hubby: Ok hun, I will put it up for sale right away.

One month later.

Wife: I thought I told you to sell that truck.

Hubby: I have it advertised, see...must be the economy, people come look at it but nobody has the $$ to buy it...oh well, guess in the mean time maybe I should order a couple more little things for it....to help it sell.

This may be more fact than fiction.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Some people have no clue to the value of a truck.

Some folks really don't want to sell unless one pays a flag pole price.

Some folks have a ton a $$$ in their trucks and are trying to recoup their cost.
