Re: PO has me PO'd

If you have book 119 it is page 3270 or go to there website McMaster.com and type "heavy duty rivet nuts" it will bring you to next screen that has option for heavy duty rivet nuts. from there you can choose what type (open /closed and metric / SAE)

Re: PO has me PO'd

If I recall it is around $100 for a decent gun that wont break after 4 or 5 pulls. I can also send ya some gripcerts and the 25/64 bit if its just gonna be a one time thing for you. Just let me know if I can help. I will have to check but I think it will all fit in a flat rate box so it would just cost ya 6 bucks to send it back when your done. This is my manual gun that I dont use anymore. Just keep it for backup in case my high lever gun breaks, so its no rush sending back.

Re: PO has me PO'd

Jim,
I have had the best luck with the 95105A143 nutserts. They look like this. I also checked the gun size and it will not fit in small flat rate by about an inch. UPS ground appears to be about 10 bucks each way.

Actually back when I did bodywork for a living we would use gripserts occasionally for door mirrors. Dad never would buy a tool for setting them. We always used a long threaded rod with multiple nuts and wrenches to tighten them until they collapsed properly. Crude but it worked.

Richard

Supplies are waiting to go out UPS now so you should have them tomorrow.

Re: PO has me PO'd

If it bottoms out before it is fully tight turn the wheel on the back of the head clockwise while the gun is released but still inserted in the gripsert. Squeeze the handle again until you get it tight enough. It is hard to apply enough pressure to break the mandrel but it is possible to break it so you just have to find that happy medium. The madrels are replaceable so no big deal if you should snap one. LOL

Just make sure not to leave that 1st one loose. U can screw the gun back in and go again.

Ok, finished up the retaining ring, now i can go back and finish the mods on the two remaining ss support rods, and wire up the fuel pump....plus vacuum out the tank of all my machining debris. Pulling the ring down presents a problem since they dont seat tight on the tank. I plan to use lock washers and a thread sealant, and hope it seals tight, if not, ill have to buy new bolts and safety wire it in place. Another option i have is to build spacers between the tank and ring, then i could pull the ring down tight.

Then i can offer up the tank to the body, still thinking of moving the tank forward two inches to clear the rear body mount, dont want to fool with taking the stubby neck off and replacing it with the oem neck, unless im forced to....to be determined!

Sandemonium posted up a 1 1/2" 90 degree fuel hose(gates 24715) which napa has a superceded number for. Ill order the hose on mon. and see how this works out with fitting up the tank

Still have build a tool to install the retaining ring on the fuel sending unit...

Thanks Richard for making this step as painless as possible

Did mine a little differant, used a 45 degree 1 1/2" hose(napa 1031) , cut about 4" off the hose, and cut about 1" off the stubby neck of the gas tank. Broght the hose out just in front of the body mount. Then went over to my local muffler shop, he had a piece of ss 1 1/2" , perfect, gave him a template of the bend i needed(about 20-25 degrees). Ended up real close to the fill pipe, just used the straight piece of hose i cut off the 45, and it gave it enough wiggle room

Dont forget i moved my tank forward about 2"....

20130806_125553 by jarosaj, on Flickr

Sheesh, 2 pages on this gas tank, now i have to work on the straps

Re: PO has me PO'd

Received my 90/10 copper nickle tubing today, the company wanted to hold off posting this info. until we could show that shipping this matrl. was viable. Normally, they ship in 8' cardboard tubes, but i wanted the 1/4" (brake lines) coiled and shipped. They had never coiled before, and i had to sign a release for damage that might happen in coiling and shipping. Coil arrived sandwiched between cardboard and 1/4" plywood, banded with steele straps.....no way was UPS going to damage this product coming across the great USofA

Tubing for my gas lines is 3/8", and shipped in straight 8' tubes(UPS regulations), thats where the problem lies. In pa., we cant use splices in our brake lines. So, they coiled a 20' piece, and that should be enough for my back brake lines

I may contact in line tube to see if they will sell me the coiled spring cover they use, may want to shield tubing from flying rocks outside of frame rails....well see

If you have any questions about using this matrl. in an automotive application, you can contact cda.copper.org, they answered my questions quickly by email. They assured me that alcohol will not corrode the nickle/copper in my fuel lines

Re: PO has me PO'd

Been using the nicop from napa for a few years now on different projects. I love it bends easy and flares awesome which is super nice for double flares.
