Barnfind 1970 c10
For my first post I thought I would post my project. It is a 1970 Chevrolet c10.
![]() front view ![]() Inside of the truck ![]() The engine. ![]() Another picture of the engine. ![]() My Father in law bought this truck new. It is a 70 Chevy longbed. It may have 100k on it or less. If it is 100k its not much over it. Its in really good shape and just needs minor stuff. We plan to paint it as it does have some flakes. But no major rust through and looking the other day I only saw about 3 pieces of rust . The biggest was about the size of a quarter and only surface rust. We plan on new tires, brakes, hoses, battery, belt, and any other minor stuff. We plan on keeping it original. It had been stored in the barn for years as my FIL did not drive the last few years of his life. He drove this on rare occasions as he had another beater truck to drive. My MIL gave it to my wifes brother and we got tired of it going to waste. So we asked if he would sell it and he did. When I got it out of the barn it looked brown as you could not tell the color. I got it out and washed it off. I plan on rebuilding the brakes and replacing stuff like plugs and hoses in the next few weeks. I know a guy that is really great on engines that will come and get it started. I plan on having everything replaced except for the points so when he comes over he can tune it up. It doesn't look like it needs much and I hope we have it running in a month or so. We sure could use it now. I need to find a replacement for the fake wheel nuts that go on the original hubcaps. Anyone know of a place that sells them? I have the original factory hubcaps but some of the pieces are missing. My wife and I want to keep it original. I do have a original Chevrolet 8 track with the bowtie on the door from the late 60s/early 70s I plan on putting in it to replace the kraco one in there now. |

Cool truck- looks really unmolested...
I think I have the same hubcaps and am missing some of the nuts you speak of. I haven't looked anywhere for them yet though.... |

Nice looking truck!
Do the easy stuff first and drive it. Think hard about paint, the paint is only original once. Looks great from here. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Barnfind 1970 c10
Thanks for the welcome. As far as the truck goes the truck was painted once many years ago. I remember when it was. Other than the kraco 8 track ,topper cover, seat cover and any parts like hoses alternator I think it is original. I think he also had one head redone and other than that it is all from the factory.
There are so many different versions of condition like survivor, original ,etc here is what we plan. Hopefully anything we replace will be the same as original. In other words it has drum brakes so we will go back with that. If the seat cover is shot we want to go back with a original looking cover. Paint will be the same color as from the factory. We plan on hopefully using the original hubcaps if I can find either new nuts to go on them or a junker hubcap to get them from. Only thing I expect to change is to replace the 8 track with a original chevy 8 track. I work on electronics and I got this 8 track years ago. It is a factory underdash 8 track that would fit perfect in the truck. I also have a original Firebird or Camaro underdash 8 track with its underdash mounts to restore as well. So hopefully if all goes well I will have all the parts to repair the brakes and other stuff by labor day. We will see how that goes. |

Re: Barnfind 1970 c10
I did a little work to it this week. I replaced the dash on Friday. Although we are keeping it as original as we can thing like the old dash that was in pieces we are replacing. We also want to recover the seat as it has the usual cracks and splits. Even though it was cheaper than a original for my old truck that would be close to 800 this one was a bigger pain to put in. But I got it in and set. I also have some new stainless mirrors but I am waiting until we start driving it.
I also went by yesterday and spent a chunk of change. I got the last of the brake parts needed for a rebuild, fan belt, antifreeze and hoses . I also had a carb rebuild kit ordered. I plan on redoing the brakes and hoses this weekend. Hopefully in a couple of weeks I will have a buddy come over and rebuild the carb. So it is on its way. Next big purchase will be a battery and tires. After that I should be able to get it on the road. ![]() |

Re: Barnfind 1970 c10
Great truck... you say you will keep the brakes all drums because that's what it came with. Wait till you drive it!
![]() I'd hate to have to do a panic stop in mine.... I think a conversion to discs is in its future....

Re: Barnfind 1970 c10
Is the engine a 307? I notice its a 3 on the tree as well. I had a 69 CST 307 with the 3 on the tree and it ran quiet and smooth. That is a nice powertrain combo for a daily driver truck.

307 it is. I rode in it years ago and it ran fine. Smooth truck the best I remember.

Re: Barnfind 1970 c10
I looked at a truck that had PB installed and the booster was at least 6" if not more off the firewall. It was really odd looking.
