will a stock starter work?
will a new rebuilt stock starter turn 10:2:1 compression and a 168 tooth flywheel? or do i have to shell out the big bucks for gear reduction starter, only askin cause i cant di for the gear re starter at the moment and i need a new starter soon. thanks -kyle

It should. If it doesn't start, back the timing off just a little.

I'm running a stock el-cheapo $30 starter on my 9.7:1 350 motor and it works OK....dosen't like to start when it is hot sometimes, but that is a header heat soak problem

Some engines came stock that way back in the day.
Don't expect the starter to last forever though. |

Im running a stock starter onmy 12:1 454, cranks a bit slow, but it works and I have had it on there for two years so far

I had a stock starter on my 11:1 327 for 5 years and it started great. Never had a problem. Turned fine, started fine. Still have it, going to put it back on when I get done with the rebuild.
